New to the forum. Banded on Thursday, March 20, 2008 weighing at 97 kg (181 lbs). I had LAP band revision surgery after my band prolapsed 3 years ago and gaining a whopping 47 kg. A bit worried that this might happen again but am keeping an optimistic outlook on things.

Wishing everyone good luck!

Nava:rolleyes2:

Hey Susan!

Thank you for your warm welcome. I look forward to being part of this wonderful forum. When I set out on this banded journey there was so little support. It's grrrrreat to have such a wealth of knowledge based on personal experience. I find that quite often, our combined knowledge, tips and support can be of more value than what our surgeons can offer. Hope this second time round for me (after revision) will be an improved experience with support on my side.

Best,

Nava

Thank you for your welcome! Glad to hear that you and your husband have visited my small country. I live up north near Haifa, if you happened to have visited.

In any case, I was initially banded in 1997 - LAP Band, early model, when support was non-existent. I began at 127 kg and went down to 51 kg within about 18 months. I experienced reflux and other symptoms that showed something was wrong but really had nobody to pinpoint the reason. In retrospect, I now know that I had experienced minor slippage and later major slippage of my band. Three years ago I had my band completely open and with the lack of restriction went from 55 kg to +-100 kg.

I waited a while before finding a surgeon who I felt I could trust and jumped on the bandwagon once more for revision surgery after learning about Inamed's new AP system band. March 10 I was banded with an AP large band and had a 2 cc fill upon surgery. I'm on a liquid diet and am very keen on following post-op diet to the letter, especially since I'm anxious about a repeat slippage. I've joined this forum because I realize that we know so much more than all the MD's out there and can really help each other reach our goals and maintain good health.

How are you and hubby doing since you've been banded? What kind of bands do you have?

Would be happy to hear your stories.

Best regards,

Nava

Congratulations on your marvellous weight loss!! Feels great, huh? I know that wonderful high feeling. I'm curious to hear how you are doing with the new band. I have AP large. They both are designed to slip less and I truly hope that is the case. Though this time round, I am a bit wiser with respect to food but need to learn from others who have succeeded without creating slippage. So I'd be happy to learn about how you have been dealing with eating solids for close to a year now.

In any case, feel free to contact me with advice, tips, questions, whatever!! Thank you for your well wishes mate!

Best regards and L'hishtameya,

Nava:smile2:

Hi Nava,

Just was banded on March 20 also. Mine for the first time. Just spent 3 weeks in Israel. My second time there, but just wonderful. My niece lives in Haifa and we toured both up North, Eilat and Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. Sorry you had difficulties the first time. I too, was banded with the new Inamed. Hope it doesn't give us much complications.

My main liquids consist of good old Jewish chicken soup...Passover will be in a few weeks, and I am nervous as to what I will be able to eat...There's always chicken Soup but no matzoah balls!!! Maybe loose mashed potatoes with brisket gravy????

Good luck cc

Congratulations CC! I have Inamed's AP Large and in addition to the basal 3 cc fill, my doc added a 2 cc fill. Right now I'm also savoring chicken buillion soup, teas, Water, some coffee and diet Jello. Yeah, I don't know what to do come Pesah either. I'm supposed to do some cooking for the Seder and I think we'll be in our mushy foods stage, right? I suppose I'll also blend a mixture for myself, including dessert. In any case, just have to be mindful of 'listening' to our tummies and sense of satiety.

Hope you enjoyed your visit in Israel and come back again. Be happy if you keep in touch!

Mazal Tov all the way,

Nava

Hi Nava,

Just reading through and found your messages about Israel. I live in Ramat Gan and am waiting to do the surgery. I am so happy to see others have done the surgery here and am interested in how you are progressing. Who was the surgeon who performed your operation? I am waiting to have my preliminary meeting with the surgeons in Tel HaShomer hospital. I have met with the dietician, internist and the psychologist. I would love to know of your experience here in Israel - by the way are you with Meuhedet? Did you get full coverage or did you have to pay partial?

Thanks

Tal

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
