Jamie, Welcome To Bandland

Recommended Posts

Welcome back!!

Just a heads up - please, please do NOT try and do too much too soon. That's the one thing I would have changed about my own recovery. I kept telling myself that it was no big deal, I should be able to get right back to it (I had gallbladder surgery as well), and this was NOT the same for me. I felt better each day, but had gone back to work right away, the Monday after my Thursday surgery, and that weekend I honestly felt like I was going to die.

SO... Baby yourself for at least two weeks!! You are going to be shocked at how much sleep you're going to crave. SLEEP! That's when you body can REALLY focus on healing. So really, sleep as much as you can these next two weeks, and don't feel like it's weird. :)

Thank you all for your kind thoughts and recovery wishes. I think I just have alot of sore muscles and that will hopefully be better in a couple of days. I've been using a heating pad today and that seems to be helping some. I'm getting in a good bit of liquids so I won't have any problems with dehydration.

I am just thrilled it is finally over and I'm on my way to a good recovery. I weighed this morning and I've already lost 3 pounds .I'm sure it is alot of Water weight but I figure any weight lost counts. Thanks to everyone and I will be back to post more tomorrow as I progress to yet another wonderful day of being banded!!!

Jamie~

Welcome to the other side. Each day is remarkably easier than the previous. I'm a little over two weeks banded and I have to REMIND myself that something is different. I have no discomfort at all.....just so you know it really does get better!

Take it easy....watch some movies...not regular TV because there are too many food commercials to remind you of stuff you can't have!

Take care!

I think I'm doing a bit better today. I am not quit as sore and I'm moving around a little better.I was able to sleep all night (In recliner)and woke up feeling better today than yesterday. I know tomorrow will be even better. I'm just so glad to be a bandster now.

P.s. Did any of you get sent home with alittle breathing exerciser??? You know you take about 10 deep breaths with it every hour. They had me use it at the hospital and then sent it home for me to use just for yesterday. Dr. said I sounded a bit congested and he wanted me to use it to keep my lungs from getting Fluid in them??? Any body else have this happen??

Yes, I had one too. The purpose is to clear the lungs to prevent pneumonia or lung fluids. I used mine for several days after getting home.

Glad you're feeling better...day by day!

Hi Jamie- So happy to hear all is well with your "new little friend". I forget who it was who named their band- but I love the idea. That way you can always say "so & so is reminding me to eat well & smart." I am thinking of a future name for mine. I call my navigation system in my car "Lucy." She always tells me where to go;0) My mom even talks back to her when she already knows which way to turn. " Lucy be quiet- I already know to turn right-LOL."

Anyhow today you sound even stronger than yesterday...so you are doing perfect! 3 pounds is awesome!! Isn't it fun to see the scale go the other way?!! Keep us updated!

Jamie, sounds like you're doing great! Yes, please keep doing your breathing exercises! I got pneumonia after my hysterectomy. I thought those nurses were so nice because they let me lie still all night long. Wrong! I learned my lesson! Get up ASAP, walk, deep breath, cough, and keep your lungs clear.

Jamie, It gets better FAST. I rested at my daughter's place for a couple of days, and felt great when I came back home. I was surprised how fast I felt better. Wishing you the same speedy recovery.

I'm doing a little better each day. I'm walking and sip, sip, sipping. I am so excited that Dr. said I could start on full liquids today. I was able to drink an entire Protein Drink. It took me a long while but I did it and I think if it doesn't give me problems I will be in good shape! I will try some pudding or yogurt later but of course take it slow and easy. So happy I'm banded!!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
