Questions about UHC

Recommended Posts

I have been married for a year but i was never added to my husbands insurance due to still being on medicaid from having a baby. I just sent my marriage certificate to UHC and they said it will tke 15 days to get me added and that my coverage will back date to when i got married. My husband works for union pacific rail road so i think our plan is pretty good. I called yesterday and they said lapband was covered 85%.

Soooo here are my questions!! haha!

1. Is the 6 month weigh in a MUST? I havent went to the doc yeat but i just wonder if there are any ppl that did not have to go through it? I have tried nutrisysstem and curves but that is all i can really prove.

2. My BMI is 43 but i dont have alot of doc visits in the past 5 years for proof and i never got treated for obesity bcs my doc is a firm beleiver of diet and exercise! ( no dietpills ect.)

3. I know this is alot for yall to read but i want this soooo bad! I am 23 years old with a 2 yr old baby and i want to feel young so i can be the best mom possible!!

UHC main plan is that if your BMI is over 40 you don't have to have anything wrong. They have started requiring the 5 yr weight history. I would see if try to get any documented weights you can, docs, ob's, weight watchers, anything. As for the 6 month diet UHC doesn't require it BUT companies can add it to their policy. So your husbands company wants the employees/spouses to do the 6 month diet then you are going to have to do it. Unless you have proof you have already done it and have documentation of it.

My suggestion would be to call the insurance and ask them if they cover CPT 43770 (which is the lap-band) and then ask them for the policy.

Good Luck!

I have UHC. I didn't have to do a 6 month diet. I submitted a 5 yr weight history and have a BMI over 40. I got my weight from my PCP and my OB/GYN. I have the beginnings of a couple of comorbidities. I was approved in four days.

Call your insurance company and find out what they require. All plans are different.

Good Luck!

I also have UHC Choice Plus. They didn't require a 6 month diet from me either. My plan only required a 5 year weight history with a diagnosis of morbid obesity. If you call them, they should be able to tell you exactly what you need.

To the above posters who had to have a 5 year weight history - did you have to be morbidly obese for all 5 of those years?

I was not morbidly obese all 5 years. It depends on weight what they submitted if it was two or three years out of the 5.

Good Luck!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
