Crystal Light

Recommended Posts

Ok when I began this adventure 6 months ago I had never heard of crystal light and if I had I didn't remember it. I got so tired of hearing the dietitian talk about it and how you should use crystal light and put unflavored unjury (Spelling? ) in it for Protein.... I finally went and got those to go packs.

It was love at first taste. Before I never drank Water EVER... Now I can't stop. I only use about 1/2 a pack tho in 24 oz or else its so sweet I can't drink it.

I have found tho I get heartburn something fierce with it when normally I don't... anyone else have this problem?

I haven't had much crystal light since being banded, but I drank a lot before and certain flavors always gave me heartburn. Some flavors have more acid in them.

Before surgery I also had heartburn in general and had a hiatal hernia, the hernia was repaired when band was placed and no more reflux now.

Which flavor are you drinking?

The raspberry lemonade (one of my favorties) gives me serious heartburn, and I've not yet been banded!

But, one Pepcid complete takes care of it, no problem. The berry flavored aren't bad and they have the added benefit of Calcium.

Check with your nurse/doctor to make sure the chewables are OK for you and give them a try. Pepcid offers a tiny, trial size pack so no big investment needed.

HTH!

Ohmigod, is THAT my problem? I've been having heartburn like crazy lately. Sometimes Zantac works for it and sometimes it doesn't. I thought it was related to my Water intake but since my Water almost always has Crystal Light in it... though I was out of it today and still have some heartburn, so maybe not.

The only way I can stand to drink Water is with the Crystal Light lemonade flavor in it. Like you, about a half a pack does it for me or it is too sweet. I have never had any problems with it causing me heartburn though.

I have a question - I'm addicted to Crystal Light Lemon-Lime and whenever I vacation in the States I can't find that flavor. Is it available outside of Canada?

If you like crystal light give Diet Snapple Peach Flavored Iced Tea a try. I love, love, love it.

Hooked on snapple.

My absolute favorite is the Crystal Light fruit Punch.

Rasberry Ice-Tea Crystal Light is second place. I make pitchers of it and my kids love it too. They don't even realize that it doesn't have sugar in it. My oldest is chubby so I'm trying different things to keep her weight down.

It does give me heartburn, but only when I use the to go packets. I don't have a problem with it when I mix a pitcher of it. Rasberry tea is my favorite and I've never seen Lemon-Lime. I bet it's yummy! Honestly, I'm amazed with the fact that I'm completely off diet coke. I thought it would be so hard but I don't even want one anymore!

I've been off the To Go packets for two days (because I keep forgetting to bring more into work) and I still have heartburn. So I guess that's not it either.

I never drank Water prebanding, and now I drink 2 liters a day with a mixture of Classic Lemonade and Raspberry Lemonade. I have had no heartburn at all since surgery. Love, Love, LOVE my Crystal Light!!

Just an FYI about Crystal Light for those who might be interested.

When I was mixing the to-go packs in bottled Water I often had a tough time getting the powder to mix, especially with peach tea, and the others as well (to a degree).

Now I use a sturdy water bottle, put about 5 ounces boiling Water (we have a hot tap at work, so nice) and the powder and it disolves perfectly. I fill the remainder with ice and the drink is perfect. Even has a slightly different flavor than when using cold water alone. I also find I get less heartburn that way.

Hope that idea helps someone!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
