There's a rumbly in my tummy......

Recommended Posts

I have my first fill already - and I do feel like I get satisfied sooner than ever before - HOWEVER - I STILL get that growly stomach throughout the day--usually have to have a snack to ward it off - I was wondering. Is this normal? I was re-reading my literature from my doc and it specifically says NO Snacks between meals -

Realizing that it may take more than one or two or three fills to get to the "sweet spot" --does this subside?????

Is anyone else snacking between meals? :confused2:

Yeah I snacked up until my 5th fill when I got restriction, and will sometimes after a heavy workout. My Dr is against snacking too - but he realizes I'm working out hard, and will need something extra on occassion, so his recommendation is raw nuts or Jerky.< /p>

I think it's darn near impossible to stay satisfied w/3 meals till you hit restriction...Just make sure your snack is low cal/low carb - You should be fine!!

I guess the question you have to ask yourself when you stomach growls is, "Am I hungry?" We have to learn to pay attention to our bodies. My stomach growls for no apparent reason at all. If you take a growling stomach as a sign of hunger and you "feel" hungry, I don't see a reason why you shouldn't have a healthy snack. Next time you tummy yells out, ask yourself "Am I hungry or is it gas?"

My stomach is always making noises but I don't think it has anything to do with hunger and more noises of digestion.

I don't feed my stomach because it makes noises anymore.

Most likely the Dr wants to break any "grazing" habit of eating between meals. Once we get good restriction and our meal satisfies us longer, the urge to want a snack should go away. I try to be careful to not let the clock tell me is time to eat. We get so accustomed to thinking we need that mid afternoon snack when the clock says 3 or 4pm.

If I really feel I need something, I try to make it an apple or something healthy. I did eat something between meals if restriction wasn;t good.

My stomach growls a lot when I'm not hungry. To quiet it down, try drinking some Water, and wait a few minutes before you eat anything, and really think about whether it's hunger or just noise. :wink2:

My dietitian said something interesting to me on the last visit to her. She said that most of the time we mistake hunger pains with being thirsty. Maybe try drinking some Water, well this works for me. Learn something new everyday.

My stomach makes those growly sounds, too. I have had 2 fills - 2cc and 1.5cc in 10cc band. It is really embarassing because it is so loud - it disrupts the meetings I am it! It usually happens in the morning, so I changed what I had for Breakfast. If I have something substantial like a Protein and complex carb, it keeps the grumbling away until lunch. I usually have 1 piece of whole grain toast with a low fat or fat free piece of swiss cheese melted on it and I am good. I have to eat the toast VERY slowly or it is uncomfortable, but it really makes the growlys go away!

My doctor says no "mindless" snacking. If you are really physically hungry you can snack. Like it was mentioned above, til you get the right restriction you aren't going to stay 'full' between meals. I had the same problem. I got full on relatively small amounts of food but the fulness didn't last until the next meal. I asked the nutritionist the same question you asked in this post and she said as long as the snack was food we should be eating (not Cookies or ice cream but a form of protein) snacking wasn't bad. Once you are at the right restriction you should try not to snack but it is much easier (I am finally there!)

My stomach is growling RIGHT NOW and I am HUNGRY because I don't have hardly any restriction after my first fill. I'm living in bandster hell right now, but still just happy to be here.

First of all, I think it would be too dang hard to not snack at all until you get to the sweet spot. That is such a ridiculous idea to me right now. I'm sure the doc's literature assumes that you shouldn't be snacking if you're at proper restriction.

I also believe that snacking is not encouraged because of how much Water we should be drinking on a daily basis. If you eat three meals and two small Snacks per day, but you can't start drinking until an hour after eating, well, it would be very difficult to get all of the Water in.

Good luck to you. I wouldn't worry about snacking if you're truly hungry.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
