My first PB...while driving, too!

Recommended Posts

I snatched a fry from my kids happy meal then took a sip of coffee and holy h@ll. PB'ing into a bag while driving because there was no where to pull over and my oldest asking what is wrong. It was nasty. Ugh. Oh, and it hurt like a sob.

Wow, isn't it amazing how fast it hits?? I know the time I did that I felt better instantly afterwards. Was it that way for you?

I felt LOADS better afterwards. It happened again later that day, too. With a 'safe' food. I think I might just have days that are sensitive. To top it off, it has been at least two weeks since my last fill. It is odd that this is happening now. I would expect it all along. I have swiped a fry from the kids before (no, I dont get fries for myself) with no problems. Last time I do that!!!

Had 1/2 cup wonton Soup tonite, and then about 10 bites of roast pork fried rice. I sat in the restaurant with my chest getting tighter and tighter, but no slime.

Left the restaurant and we were walking to the car, and boom, up everything came. Lucky for me I was with my best friend, the one who taught me how to throw up in the NYC Subway System 20 years ago. He just held my hair back for me and let me throw up. Just like the old days.:tt2: (of course in those days it was throwing up from drinking too much liquor, oh have the times changed...:sneaky:)

I'm still not 100% sure what PBing is. :sneaky: Is it slime before you vomit? Can the PB cause band slippage? Do you gag when you PB?

PB is Productive burping, its really not vomit, its you bringing up what you ate that is pretty much at the top of your stomach pouch or in the esophogus, so you aren't getting the nasty taste or smell of vomit.

Usually you slime first. I have slimed before, but this was my second episode of PB'ing.

Thanks. So where is this slime produced? :sneaky:

Slime is produced in your esophogus. Its the juices you produce in anticipation of the food working its way down to your stomach. You know, when your mouth waters. Sometimes, you eat too fast or don't chew the food enough and it gets stuck, your body now over produces those juices to try to get it down, and sometimes the slime comes up through your nose and mouth, and the food goes down. When it doesn't, that is when you PB.

You don't want to make a habit of this because you might stretch your new pouch or damage your band. The idea is to Portion Control your food and eat slow and chew alot.

Thank you for the info! Wonderful, out my nose. Can't wait. :sneaky:

Wow, that explains it. In the morning when my band is tight, if I eat too fast, I have had PB, and yes I get slime first. I had wondered where it came from, cause I didn't eat anything slimy.

Does anyone have more difficulty with this when its rainy/stormy? My band seems tighter during this kind of weather and "morning-band" can last all day.

I think the band reacts differently in different people. With me, I am tight in the morning if I wake up at 6am all the way through 10am, but, if I wake up on Saturday morning at 10am, I am tight all the way into the afternoon. That is so weird.

If I am out all night, and come home at 6am, I am not tight.

So I am guessing that the band tightening is not an environmental thing its a body thing.

I haven't been banded yet, but am confused a bit on this PB business. I haven't seen this question yet, so I will ask. Suppose you get nausous (from the flu or something). Is it even possible to throw up once you are banded? If stuff past your band in your lower stomach is churning, how do you get it out? Can stuff go back thru the band and out? Sorry if you are reading this at lunchtime. I just wondered.

Never thought about that either, but my guess is that since you have to pulverize your food to get it past the band, and you have to throw up its going to come up. In that case you will probably have the vomit taste and smell.

I think you should also post this question in the main section, you will probably get a great response.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
