Hello from Connecticut

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I started lurking on your board about 5 days ago...right after I scheduled the surgery date which is 4/22/08. :biggrin2: I am extremely excited and scared at the same time. My Anthem BC/BS would not pay so it falls all on me. I don't mind too much for it is an investment in me and I need to have the surgery.

The surgeon is Fairfield County Bariatrics - Dr. Timothy Ehrlich. I am just trying to read everything here to make sure I am ready and know what to expect. I will have to do the 2 wk pre op liquid diet (Optifast) and am wondering what flavors are good. Guess I should buy 1 of each to try now just to be safe!

Enough rambling....looking forward to making new friends here soon. Take care for now.....

Good luck to you. I had my operation on 3/12 and am re-couping now. My insurance would not pay either, but I felt for my health this was the right thing to do. I had to do a high protien diet so that was easy (meat and veggies) it really wasn't as hard as I thought, I guess when your ready your ready. I'm in Colorado and will be thinking of you! Good luck!

Welcome, I'm from Ct and had the same surgeon. Why not join the rest of the Ct family on the local support group page?

Scroll down on the main page to the "Support" Section, then look for USA, then click on CT and you'll find us.

I was a self pay, too. Don't regret it but I was hoping that would be my plastic surgery money!

I forgot to mention, once you're banded you should consider joining the support group for the month in which you have surgery. You'll be in the same place as that group and it can be very helpful.

I'm a regular on the November 2007 group and check in with the Ct. group as well.

There are groups for those that have to lose a lot and those that are almost to goal and age related groups, like those in their twenties or thirties or forties etc.

Always easy to find someone on the forum in the same situation or questions etc that you might have, so look around the forum. Once you get used to the layout of the forum it gets easier to find these.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
