I was banded 3/11/08. I was on liquids for 1 week, then 1 week of mushy's, now I am on to solid food slowly. I did have some ham this weekend for easter, that sure tasted good. I also had a quarter of a wheat wrap with deli sliced turkey and a slice of cheese on. It was good and I just made sure I chewed it very well. Also have been enjoying some cantelop. One secret one person told me is sugar free, Fat free choclate fudge pudding. It is very good and only 25 calories a serving (I think) and just a drop of cool whip free on top, very good, make sure to only have one serving at a time though but really helps the sweet tooth. I feel like I could eat anything, and have not had any problems yet, but have been very careful, but I was told I can start solid foods slowing starting week 3.

I'm a big user of diet pudding with a dab of lite cool whip.

My doc was so relaxed about the diet stages compared to what I read about here (and compared to the dietitian's warnings!). After 8 days the surgeon said to go to "Stage 3+" in other words mushies, but trying solids too. So now 3 weeks out I can eat just about anything. If I start too fast I get an immediate pain in my chest, but if I chew well and go slow, it goes down fine. I feel a bit of restriction and really suffer after a meal if I eat too much; I just wish the warning that I've eaten too much would come sooner!

I hope I haven't rushed it, I really do.

Oh my, I think I would have lost my mind eating nothing but Protein drinks for another 3 days much less 3 more weeks! The bad thing is I'm losing very slowly if at all, because I am "able" to eat about 80% of what I could before surgery. So yeah, it's about forming good habits now.

I finally started mushies yesterday. So far I was getting full with the Protein Shakes and soups.. but just knowing that now I can eat many different foods.... made me really hungry and kept thinking about all the things I could eat. Then I ate too quickly and felt uncomfortable. That was the sign and I started to repeat to myself that the hunger is in my head not on my stomach, it helped a little. I guess I have to do that every day, because today after eating half a cup of mushies I realized I could eat more and I really want to split the cup into at least 2 meals and I really want to stick to the guidelines so I don't want to over eat. Anyway, I love this site because it always makes me feel better, reassuring me that I am doing the best for myself and that I am not alone in this journey, you are all there with me.

Thanks.

I'm in the same situation. I am eating soooo much. I want my first fill NOW!!! Grrrrrrr. I want icecream. I want Cookies. I want cake. I want chocolate. I want chips. I want a hamburger! I want fries!!!!

Ok. Now that I'm over that rant I must say that I am not feeling any restriction and am sick of oatmeal and bananas. I feel like a monkey and maybe it's just because it's the weekend and I'm a bit bored, but I am sick of Water, too!

Any advice?

I'm in the same boat as you. I seem to be eating everything. I was banded on 3/17/08 and I have fallen off the wagon.

I think we just need to hang in there until we get filled. In reading all the blogs we really don't have restriction just a smaller pouch. I'm joining the gym this week and be able to start walking and exercising.

We'll be fine.....sharon

HI, don't feel bad. Hopefully some banded vets can chime in and give us some words of advice. I've "cheated" too :scared2: and the guilt I feel is worse then ever before. But even when I did cheat it was nothing even close to the crap I ate before I was banded. I guess that helps the guilt a little, LOL

I can't wait to get my first fill, I hope my Dr. does it on 4/10 at my next appointment.

I was banded on March 18, 2008, and I am supposed to be on Clear liquids until mid april... I am having a really hard time with it, so much so that I have added cream of wheat, apple sauce, cottage cheese and occasionally chicken for Protein. I have tried several suggested Protein shakes (wasted 100's of $'s) and still have not found one I am able to choke down without gagging, so I know that is where a lot of the hunger feelings are coming from and the need for Protein. I also have been craving all that is bad for me. I am glad to know I am not the only one. Has anyone slipped the band from this sort of pre fill eating?

Thanks and Good Luck!!!

J

Hello Everyone,

It's good to meet you all. I was banded on February 28, 2008. Experience was uneventful. The first couple of weeks I followed the regimine to the t, but then got horribly sick. Not band related, but a violent stomach flu (my whole family had it). I was vomiting a lot and without even thinking I resorted to my old standby: ginger ale and crackers, progressing to tea and toast. I didn't even realize I was supposed to be on a full liquid diet. Anyway, since then I have only been about 2/3 faithful to the plan. I haven't had my first fill yet, but am worried I may have damaged my band and my chances of success. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Thanks,

M

Boy do I know how you feel I was recently banded (3-27-08) and I want to do a drive by at a fast food drive in. I did not want the band but the doctor I selected said the Gastric Sleeve was not very good.

So, I opted for the band not wanting my intestines re-directed, but If I can eat like this I feel as if surgery was in vain. I need help ALREADY!!!!!!

okay, am 2 weeks exactly post op- a week 1/2 into the liquids, my stomach was rumbling VIOLENTLY!!! & i could tell the difference between the surgery gas & hungry by this point (which really doesnt bother me) but the violent pangs HURT a bit- so to appease it, i found that if i toss sugar free coco, a tblspn of Peanut Butter & 8oz of skim milk into the food processor or blender, i have shake- make sure if you do this, you keep stirring as it does eventually seperate- but it is filling- so much so that i only drink a few sips & stick it in the fridge for later- i have also found that if you take a baked potato, add sour cream (fatfree/light) and a bit of Water & cheese & season it, you can mush it up to almost liquid & eat that- i do about 2 tblspns at a sitting if i am lucky, and make sure to chew the lumps out before swallowing- drink a tiny bit of Water with it & it goes down/thru- & i am full for hours- hope that helps you- also found that lowfat/sodium crackers melt/dissolve in your mouth & 2 will also fill me up for hours...call me weird, but those hunger pains HURT!!!!

just a thought for you ladies who are starving!

~Mimi

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
