replacing the tubing

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ever had to have their tubing or band replaced? I was banded on January 18, 2007.... and when I got filled a couple of weeks ago, they couldn't seem to get all the Fluid out to put all the fluid back in. So when I seen the doctor this week, there was nothing in my band, even though two weeks before they put in 3.2. I have to go back this coming week to see if the same thing has happened again. That is when the doctor told me that he thinks that there is something wrong with the tubing to the band from the port.

I had to have my tubing replaced last November, after 2 1/2 years. I had the same problem, when the doctor went to put in a fill there was nothing left from before. He injected a dye ( all fills are done under flouro) and he couldn't tell where the leak was, so when I went in for surgery I didn't know it I was getting a new band, new tubing or a new port.Lucky for me it was the tubing. The surgery was fairly easy and the recovery was a snap. Good luck, I hope everything goes well.

I have to go in again to have a port revision, not because of the port, but because there is a kink in my tubing. Dr. can get Fluid in, but cannot get anything out. He gave me a slight fill on friday when he did it under flouro to see where the kink was. It made a huge difference in the amount of restriction I feel. I can't swallow my Vitamins without getting stuck, but I am able to get liquids and mushies down. I'm glad to hear that the recovery is quick and that I will be able to do this with only conscious sedation and not have to go completely out.

Good luck to everyone else with this problem. My Dr. seems to think this is a manufacturers glitch as I am the 3rd person to have this problem in his practice, and he was able to show me on the model where the problem is occuring.

I am new here but yes I had problems too. I had my band done in January of 2004 but my tubing Cracked somewhere along the way. It took a long time (a year or two) for me to get the approval since I moved out of the state it was done in. No one in this state would touch me so I flew back to my original surgeon. They had to replace the tubing and the port this was done in 2006. Surgery went fine. Just shortly after I got prengnant though. I just recently wanted to get another fill to start losing weight again but I'm pregnant again so it will have wait to again.

Hello, I am having re-vision surgery next Friday. My Doc suspects that I have a tiny leak in my tubing...

You stated that you had to go under general anesthetic for the proceedure... So did you have to have the gas pumped into you abd. again too??

What was your recovery time etc?

Also, did you have to go back on liquid diet/mushies/ solid reintroduction for 5 weeks Post op? Or could you resume eating solids.

Sorry, one more question - did you have to go thru the incremental fill process all over again???/

peaches9-

The gas was pumped, I guess because they didn't know exactly where the leak was, we weren't sure if I was going to need a new band. It wasn't as bad as the initial surgery.

I was out of work for 3 days and then my weekend, I went back the day after Thanksgiving.

I went to real food 2 days after surgery, lucky for me, It was Thanksgiving and I didn't have to do the mushy thing again, but I was careful.

I am still trying to get the fill right. The insurance company made me wait for 90 days following the surgery, as if was a new band, and when I finally did get a fill I got something like the flu and had to have an emergency un-fill. Now I have to wait for 4 weeks to see my doctor to get scheduled for a fill.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
