How long does it take?

Recommended Posts

I'm pre-band right now and going in for all my testing next week but my doctor is 4 hours away which means i'll be 4 hours away for each fill.

How long does a fill take? What is the "standard" time between fills?

Fills take me about 5 minutes.

Usually you wait at least 4 weeks between fills, but there is no standard maximum time between them. Some people don't have a fill for up to a year after surgery, but most want the first one about 6 weeks out. After that, you might never need another fill or might need one in two weeks.

There can be swelling of the stomach after a fill, so many doctors want you to go back on liquids for 24-72 hours. Sometimes a fill seems to take a while to "take" so that is why it is good to wait a few weeks after a fill before getting another.

My husband and I were banded the same day in October. He has had 3 fills and has less restriction than I do, and I've only had two. It is a very individual thing.

I just had my first fill today :-) Tomorrow will be my 3rd week being banded :-) My Dr. is aggressive with fills, we have our first fill 3-4 weeks out. If I am hungry or eating too much, I go back in two weeks. However, he makes you go back on liquids for 3 days, then mushies for 4 days. The fill took about 3 minutes, but I had to wait for about 30 minutes before I saw the Dr. and then he makes you drink an entire bottle of Water before you can leave. So I was there for quite sometime.

Fills take a few minutes. All doctors are different in how often you can get fills. My doctor makes us wait ten days and if we don't feel restriction we can go back in.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
