I was banded at 1200 on Friday and walking (albeit slowly) on Sunday. I was back to my desk job on Monday, and walking from work (about 30 min normally, 45 min that first week) that same day. I was not on any pain meds, and the gas pains were gone by Tuesday.

I was in the gym the very next day, followed by walking around the mall a couple of hours with my wife. Most docs (check with yours) will encourage you to walk every day post surgery. The trick is to listen to your body and do not overdue it.

While its possible to start being active within 24-48 hours as long as you don;t push it too much, consider that your active lifestyle has probably contributed to your weight. Perhaps its time to slow down and start taking care of yourself for a change.

I had surgery on Friday, stayed at the hospital until Saturday morning. I felt horrible on Saturday and Sunday, but this was due to getting over the anesthesia - not everyone has this problem. On Monday I went to a movie and went back to work on Wednesday. It took about 2 weeks to feel normal again.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
