Delayed Menstrual Cycle

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

For the ladies, I was banded 1 month ago today and still have not started my period. Did any of u have a delayed menstrual cycle? I heard after surgery, which is considered trauma to your body, this can sometimes throw your cycle out of whack. How long does it take to come back regularly?

Thanks,

Alice

greetings, i was banded 3/5/08. typically i spend about 3-4 ultra heavy days with my period. i started a week early and it was the day of my surgery, all i could think was what a pain in the ass. well i got out of surgery and whammo, i had stopped. a 1 day period!! i have heard the same thing as you, surgery recovery takes priority subconsciously. now if that would just continue thru menopause.............

Mine showed up 3 months post-op. But I have PCOS, so to get it more than twice a year is rare for me.

I didn't know i had pcos until i went 10mths without a period post-op.... i was never regular before banding but i just thought every 3-4mths for one period was normal for me...

so now the only way i get a period regularly is if im on birth control:blushing:

Jeni,

BC is the only way that I was "regular" as well. However, since I have been banded I have had 4 periods in 6 months which is what I usually get in 2 years! I think the weight loss is really helping.

Ya, weight-loss is a major help in the pcos area.. by dr. goal is to lean me off the birth control the closer to goal and see if i regulate a little more... she says she would be happy with 1 period every 3 months..:)

I'm so glad to see this post. I had twins a year ago and have been very regular since. Since surgery on 2/5, i haven't had my period. My DH had the big V-snip, and we still use protection so there is no way I am pregers again, I'm glad that it is just my body conforming to the trauma. I was a little worried there. NO MORE BABIES in my house.

You guys sound like you got the lucky malfunction. I had to go off my birth control for surgery, so 1 month pre-op I was bleeding like a stuck pig. During surgery, they had taped a massive maxi-pad to my butt! This continued another month-ish till the b/c re-regulated me.

I was just thinking about posting a period question when I saw this thread. I have the opposite problem though, I've bee very regular and now all the sudden 6mo post op my period shows up 10 days early and is heavier than usual. Could it be weight loss related?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
