Excessive Burping after surgery?

Recommended Posts

It's been 5 months since surgery, and I've already lost 54 pounds! I feel great, except after my first and second adjustments, I've noticed that I burp a heck of a lot more and sometimes feel that my stomach is full of air. & Some mornings I wake up burping and feel a significant tightness in the band. I've read that drinking warm liquids helps with the tightness (which does help, I've tried it), but is there anything you can do about the burping? It's annoying a lot of the time

Just wondering if anyone had any tips for the burping or also shares my pain.

Thanks!

Right after surgery I belched A LOT... for the first week... long deep belches... sometimes I couldn't lay down because the belching pain was too much and I'd have to sit up to belch for 10 seconds and then I could lay down comfortably. But, I think that was just the gas from the surgery. I seem to belch just the same amount as I did before the surgery now... But, I haven't received my first fill yet, so I'll keep you posted after that happens.

I burp all the time!

I work in customer service and it is crazy trying to hide a burp when your on the phone. If I am not dealing with a customer I just let the burp rip.

My co-workers think it is funny. Thank goodness.

It has eased up a bit since I have had the surgery. But I am ok with it. as long as I am losing weight and not puking every time I burp I am good.

Not very ladylike but oh well.

It is funny how the band affects some people so differently than others. My bf father was banded 3 years ago (lost 130 pds in 10 months and is who inspired me to start looking into this) and he was unable to belch for the first two years. At all! He said that the gas will come out one way or another, literally, and that he wishes he would have had a belching problem instead of what he got :sneaky:

I am a little over a month out from surgery and I burp all the time as well. It also hurts a lot sometimes but I attribute that to my hiatal hernia repair. I wouldn't mind burping all the time as long as it doesn't hurt! Nice to know someone else share my misery.

I burped all the time, those long rolling burps like so many on here. My husband thought it was hysterical, but it was very embarassing trying to hide them in my whisper quiet office.

The funny thing is, after my first fill, they've all but vanished. Going in for my second fill on Friday. Can't wait to see what that brings.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
