Calling all April Bandsters!!!!

Recommended Posts

OMG! I was so mad this morning! The office called and said they would have to reschedule me for another time. I said, 'okay, what time?'. They said, "we don't know, I'll call you back in about a week and a half"!!!!! WTH???? I said, "um, no, I really need this appt." she say, "why, what's wrong?" I said "I'm hungry! I've waited for this appt for a long time!!!!!!" She called me back and miraculously rescheduled me for 3 pm today. Oh I was ready to march over there and do the fill myself! LOL

So, I don't have any news yet to share, but hopefull (if they don't call again) I will tell you after it's over today!

Blund: WOW! I wish I were that restricted without a fill! I would never need a fill! I can eat quite a bit if I'm not careful. You be careful moving on to regular food!

I'll be back in a few hours with an update and hopefully a fill!!!

For those of you who are still on mushies.... do you eat 3 oz of mushies and stop? It seems alot more will fit!! I keep saying I'm not getting that hungry but I'm wondering if it's because I'm eating too much. I'm not eating bad stuff... everything is on the list of ok to eat. Like today for lunch I had black eyed peas... but more than 3 oz. Should I be eating ONLY 3 oz. (which is NOT alot) per meal? Then I WOULD be understanding the bandster hell.

SBG: Yes, I would call that Bandster Hell! I was allowed 4 oz., but hey, no difference really! This is why I want my fill so bad! I'm hungry and 4 oz. wasn't enough! I have since gone over the 4 oz. rule, but more because I wasn't measuring. It was like one day I was eating and next thing you know I had eaten way more than I intended and realized that nothing stopped me! My band wasn't "working" yet, so I could just eat and eat if I wanted to. Obviously I don't want to, so I quit right away!

Up until then I was just plain starving! It was awful! But I've loaded up on Protein Drinks just because they make me feel full and last a lot longer than 4 oz. of food. Once I get this fill, I'm hoping that 4 oz will make me feel full or that I will get some sort of message between my band and my brain telling me it's time to stop eating! They are connected right? LOL

SBG - Yes you are in bandster hell. It is not fun - although I think it is a step up from liquid hell - which I truly hated! Like Turler, I increased my Protein and also logged everything on TheDailyPlate.com. I noticed I was eating far too calories and not enough protein. I upped both which helped my hunger and tiredness. Good luck to you.

Turler - good luck with your fill. I am so excited and ready for mine. I'm like an impatient little kid! I'd have freaked too if they rescheduled me another week and a half...let me know how it goes. Hey - how'd you get your fill before mine? We're supposed to be doing this together. Banded 4.10 - fills the same too - I'm jealous! can't you tell.

LOL!!!

Hi kids! Okay, I got my fill!!! WOO HOO!!!! He must have been on his to way somewhere else as his very beautiful wife and darling daughter were waiting in the office for him while I was there!

It went just great! He gave me 1 cc (mL). I was so surprised! I didn't think I'd get so much for the first time! He said next time will be 0.5 cc increments until proper restriction is achieved! He had me do this weird sit up maneuver--which I thought he was teasing me about. It was funny because I didn't do it, and he was like okay...do it now! I laughed and did it and he sort of "grabbed" the port (this faux sit-up makes the port stand out). He then held on to it and had me do it again and at the very moment I did that, he put the needle in and injected the saline! I said "hey! You tricked me!" LOL It didn't hurt a bit and was over in a second. That was it. The whole appointment was less than 5 minutes!

He said if I don't feel anything (restriction) by Monday, to call him and he'll give me another fill. Likewise, if I have any problems to call him anytime and he'll unfill. Cool, huh?

Boy am I glad I got this. I don't feel different yet, but he said it should help with the hunger and of course the portion sizes too. I was so ready to be mad today (been kinda bitchy with the being hungry all the time thing), but I'm glad he saw me. Whew!

L2L: Girl all I told them was that I was only off Tues and Fri and they didn't have anything open next week so they gave me my fill a week early rather than later! YAY for me! LOL

Colarado Chick,

Don't eat too less either, because your body will go into store fat mode. It's like a balancing act. You have to eat enought to fuel your body, but you have to exercise also.

Sometimes I weigh myself and I'm up 2-3 pounds but a few days later I will weigh myself and be 5-6 pounds down. It also depends on how much salt is in what you are eating too. Sometimes it's just Water weight.

Anyway, good luck with your weightloss.

Sincerely, Ms. NeNe

Thanks NeNe!

I am eating three meals per day - just really small ones! Anyway, I start regular food today. I had an egg and sausage link for Breakfast. So far so good. I think I am going to try a chicken breast for lunch to see how that goes. I am exercising about 30 minutes per day. Hopefully I see some results soon! :woot: Have a GREAT DAY!

Nope. No fluoro. My doctor puts the port in the same place on every patient no matter what so that he doesn't have to hunt for it. I believe he only does fluro if a patient is having trouble or the port is flipped or something like that. I swear it was so fast! Over and done in seconds!

I don't feel anything yet though. I keep waiting. I was worried that I would wake up today and wouldn't be able to drink or something, but I am doing fine. I haven't pushed it though. I am on call this weekend and I don't want to have my first PB during a surgery! LOL

Ummm, I didn't know you had a group! I wanna play too...how do I get there?

My doctor uses the fluro to know how much Fluid to put in the band. I had to drink barium and he watched how fast it went through and then he added Fluid and had me drink the barium to make sure my restriction was good. It was really neat to actually watch the restriction happen using the fluro!

That would be cool. I may ask for one at some point just for peace of mind. I am worried about stretching the upper pouch/esophageal area. It's good to look in on this stuff once in a while.

I got to see it on fluoro in the hospital after surgery, but I'd like to see it again.

Hey there you all.... Sounds like everyone is doing good and moving right along. I'ts nice to hear about the fills, as mine is coming up 5/28 which will be 1 month post op for me. Still on mushies and doing ok, I did try 1 chicken wing yesterday and had no problems, but I'm not going to move on until I'm supposed to. On my f/u appt. I did tell them that I was sometimes still feeling hungry and she said to pay more attention to the amount of Protein you eat, as it stays with you longer. Our program allows 4 oz at each meal also. Keep up the great work everyone!

OK, now that I'm on regular food, I'm no longer losing, but they warned me about that. Right now, my goal is to just maintain until I get my first fill on June 5th. Seems like a long time. Except for the tatter tot incident, everything's been fine going down. I did get a little stuck with a piece of hamburger I didn't chew up enough. Its so hard not to eat fast! I was raised with my brothers and I HAD to eat fast or I wouldn't get anything! Then, when we had kids, I had to eat fast so that I COULD eat, and take care of kids! Hard habit to break.

I walk about 8 miles a week, but need to start those sit-ups. My gut is still hanging over even with my loss so far.

Hi all, I hope you don't mind if i join this thread.

Blund, I had an incident over the weekend with a piece of grapefruit (which i had no business eating), but my dr. ended removing the 1.5cc that was in my band at the time of surgery. I've been back on liquids since. I am now scheduled for my first fill in 2 weeks and I'm really nervous. The pain from the "stuck" food is something I do not ever want to feel again. I will be extra carefull with every food I try from now on.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
