Calling all April Bandsters!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hey all fellow Avengers, I hope all are doing well in whatever phase they are in right now. I was banded on 4/10. I have the typical sorness and was at first not hungry at all and forcing down what liquids I could, now I am feeling HUNGRY even after I have had my broth. I'm not complaining at all, just telling you all where I am at. After 7 days i start the creamy Soup stage and am looking forward to that. Take care all, and for all with sugeries this week, Best of luck and God bless!

Hey karly1. I was also banded that day. My port site is just a bit sore still and it bothers me some to ride in a car but other than that I am good. I also have to wear an abdominal binder which is a pain. Are you already exercising or not?

Hi everyone....just checking in....The nurse at the Dr's office said to wait at least a week before weighing yourself. I'm still not hungry...but it has given me time to think about all the times I would eat just because it was in front of me, or eat because someone else was munching....how disgusting that I did that to myself. I now know that I always had the choice to eat or not eat. Maybe now this new found tool is helping me to learn that when I can eat other things besides Protein I will have the control I need to keep myself healthy and not over do it. Yesterday I was soo disgusted, I felt like all I'm doing is drinking liquids all day long...I feel like that's all I do. I'm like tired of drinking....but today is better....I know this is something I need to do.

Oh well enough of my ranting, I just wanted to check in and give you all an update....later.........

today marks one week. weight lose has been super encouraging. when ever I did weight watchers I would always lose one pound to everone elses four. I hate reading all the posts where people gain once they start back on solids. Would like to hear from anyone who kept losing even after adding foods. What did you start with and how did it go for you?

Hi All . How's everyone?

Dream, No, I have not been able to exercise. I walk a little but hopefully will more soon. I am having a lot of soreness in my port site. Today, like Carol, I grew tired of liquids. Looking forward to Thursday when I can have cream Soups and fat free pudding. Your right Carol, it does give us time to take a long look at our prior relationship with food. I have a feeling I am about to pick up a new habit, maybe teach myself to crochet or something,

Hi, everyone I had my surgery on Monday the 14th. I have to say no one mentioned teh shot they put in your stomach before surgery that stings like you know what. Surgery went when I woke up I was not happy i was in some serious pain for a while. After about 4 shots of pain meds I was down to around a pain level of 2. I was in the hospital one night and the nursers were soooo nice but they didnt know much abount the band. They brought Clear Liquids for dinner but included in the meal was Jello. Jello is not on the list for me to eat so I didnt. I am not going to lie I had a hard time with pain while I was in there. They gave me morphine every two hours and I could hardly wait for the next one then they started giving me tylenol 3 every two hours and morphine the next two hours. The tylenol 3 didnt touch the pain. The nurse said well we dont want to give any morphine because your going home soon and you need to be off morphine. I called my doctor from the hospital bed and said I am in pain and I cant wait another 2 hours for more tylenol that doesnt work. She explained that I shouldnt be in pain and ask the nurse to give the morphine to me and then she would call something stronger in for me to pick up on my way home. All in all everyone was nice a few up's and down's but I am home Thank God and the pain meds seem to be better than what I had in the hospital. O and soon I will post the Soup my mom made for me when I got home from the hospital it was like heaven. I could only eat the clear broth but it is soooo goood. You will want to try it. I better go lay down. O one more thing I did too gain 6 pounds from the hospital stay alone. I had 2 apple and 1 grape juice to drink thats all I had and I gained 6 lbs. YIKES what do they put in those bags of Fluid?

I'd never heard anything about the shot in the stomach until they mentioned it in our nutrition preop class the other day. I actually had forgotten about it again lol. I hate to hear that you had to deal with so much pain but glad it's gotten better. Keep us updated and send that Soup receipe when you can. Congrads on being in band land now. The best is yet to come!

yes those shots sound worse than they are ...i had 4 of them....they sting afterwards....i had my band done in pittsburgh....i was on a wing that all it was was banding or bypass...the nurses were well informed...i also had the pleasure of a pain pump....i hit it and the pain meds went in....that was nice...my dr put me on roxicet liquid pain meds...that really helped when i was home....It took about 3 days to be off the pain meds...and about a week to be feeling better. I was banded 4/4 and i feel great today....I was allowed Jello on my liquid diet.....good luck to you

Hello Avengers!!

After being banded on the 10/04/08 I had my first day without any painkillers- I don't feel 100% yet, as in if I do too much I feel pain, and I've been having lots of early nights! Not a real complaint though, I love sleeping.< /p>

Lots of people had their surgery the same day as me and it's really nice to see how you're all doing, not to mention reassuring. I feel for you on your liquid diets (I only have to do liquids/mushies for two weeks post op) as I get so hungry before meal times, the grumbles make me double up and clear broth just wouldn't cut it. It's very strange to feel hunger, soothing of food, satisfaction and then the thrill of being able to stop when I'm full. I can't say these were things I ever felt on a daily basis pre-band!

Good luck to all with upcoming surgeries, my thoughts are with you!

so jealous of all you people and your different pain relief. all i got was tylenol 3 and it made me so nasaus i couldn't take it. it's been eight days. i'm still kinda sore and have a back ache that a nice back massage might cure. heard we can't get massages for a while. on the other hand the weight is speeding off. i hope it is actual fat and not just mussle and brain cells.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
