I feel like throwing the towel into the ring and surrendering to defeat. I feel so dumb and fat and lazy. I know what needs to be done, just can't seem to get myself to do it. I do so good during the day at work, then I get so hungry just before it's time to leave work and I am not a fruit and/or veggie person and Water doesn't control the hunger during this time. By the time I walk through the door, I eat anything and everything that crosses my path food wise. I then load up my plate when dinner is finally done and then at times find myself wanting something while I am watching TV at night. I can't seem to get off my lazy butt and exercise at all. I know that would help, but my knees are constantly killing me and I am tired all the time because I don't sleep very well at all at night. I am so sorry for being so negative and depressing, but just needed to vent. I just don't know what to do and no where to turn right now. I have no support system at home and no one to do this journey with. I have to go back to the doctor & dietician next month and haven't lost a thing. I had my surgery back in April of 2008 and have lost and gained so much that i've actually only lost 2# since my surgery. I just had a fill in March (bad experience, he put in too much and I couldn't even swallow my siliva so some had to come out) and can see a difference, but still don't know what satisfied feels like. I eat till something gets stuck and then just wait till it goes down or comes up and then I finish whatever I put on my large plate. I just don't know how to stop this vicious cycle. I will end here before I totally depress the heck outta everyone here. Sorry for venting and rambling....

Funny I was just talking about Facebook this morning. I absolutely refuse to sign up for facebook - even though I get 2-3 invites a week. I am too busy, too old, and just not that interested!!!!! Some people say they like it for the pictures, etc. I don't want to be bothered!!!! Twitter sounds pretty cool at times - especially when devoted to specific topics and the fact that you cannot go over a certain amount of words - but I haven't experienced it and don't know if they have a way to control the profanity etc. In those situations - either you have an articulate vocabulary or all you do is swear and the latter is definitely not attractive to me. Technology - keeping up with it - sometimes a huge pain. I do like this board and all of you though!!! :cool2:

Hi Kidder -

with all due respect, to say "I am not a fruit and veggie person" - makes me immediately think - "well, what heavy person naturally is????" I see this whole experience as a forceful way of imposing rules and restrictions on yourself - with a band that reinforces it. I know for myself I have really got to want it and be determined that I am no longer going to live a certain way and that I am going to abandon certain habits. Otherwsie why go through the motions? Unless a person has been living under a rock, we all know the right decisons, right choices and right rules to follow - it is just getting up every morning and determining that we are going to put the tool to work for us and expect and work towards good results. The band works but not by itself.

It seems disappointing to have been at something for a year only to experience a small weight loss - but I give you credit for not making 1001 excuses like some others I have seen on this board!!

Also I would rethink the eating habits - if you can pinpoint the normal time that the hunger is going to strike - late in the afternoon, then don't deprive yourself of the Protein during the day and about the time it will hit - find a protein that is the most satisfying to you. I am convinced that anyone can do this - you just have to work at finding the right formula for you - what works for me - might not work for you - but what about starting out slow, watch tv AND exercise at the same time. My knees started hurting me so bad that is really what got me to decide on the surgery, I was becoming more and more lethargic. Now I run 2-3 miles just about everyday and switch between treadmill and eliptical. Don't throw in the towel = just be diligent in finding what works for you!!! It is all in the secret of eating less and moving more!!

Hi Gail,

It obvious from your post that you KNOW what you are doing to yourself so I don't really think there is anyone who can give you any advice, you just have to decide that you want it. Like anything in life it's up to you to make it happen. You had the drive to do what was needed to get surgery, just hang in there and do what is best for you! You are just as capable as anyone else here!!! I believe in you - now you have to believe in you, too!

I drink a Protein Shake in between meals to avoid getting hungry, and then overeating. I also find that when I do get hungry I need to find an activity to see if the hunger goes away (head hunger).

Well kids, I got a fill yesterday! I can tell a big difference already. I really hope this is the one that gets me back on track. I notice it most when I drink (I actually have to slow down and sip) and now there is all that "wind-tunnel" noise when I eat! Sounds like a good fill, eh? LOL

Only the scale will tell...not sure yet, but I hope this curbs my hunger to go with it. I'm feeling optimistic and can't wait to get this ball rolling!!!!

Woot Woot!

Kiddr- I am so glad you came back here. This is where we get the support we need. We can bounce ideas and vent and stomp our feet and bang our fists here. I've been through quite a bit, but it's because of this thread that I've been able to stay encouraged. Everyone here is great and we are here for you if you want to hang around! Welcome back...you CAN do this!

LOL Too funny you guys!! Yes, I am used to the noises, but not everyone else is!! Gets weird in quiet rooms...hahahaha

I do think this fill is working so far. I am ALWAYS the "hungry one". Well today, my lunch buddies had to come find me an hour after our "usual" time cuz I hadn't come after them to go eat yet!!! LOL Do you think it's working??? Oh Lord I hope so!

Hi everyone. I am new to this group. I was banded April 8, 2009. I was doing great up until December when I had foot surgery and became immobile. I was supposed to be "down" for 3 mos, but it is now 6 mos....but that is getting ready to change....I should be back up and about by month end. My struggle was I lost 60 lbs up until surgery. My dr. did say I would put weight back on because of being immobile with the band....well, I did and I an up 10lbs and digusted. I did just get a very small fill last week (the last 2 fills had to be removed because I couldn't even swallow water), but I just don't feel that restriction like I use to. It is very frustrating to say the least.....but I know I will get back on track!!!! I just need some support and that is why I am here. I see your weight loss so far and I am soo very happy for you .... it is very encouraging to me.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
