Hi MOM-

Sorry to hear of all these troubles your daughter is having. I hope you get this sorted out and she starts to lose weight. Where did she end up having surgery? Where do you live?

~Mom~

I would strongly encourage your daughter to turn her focus to exercise, exercise, exercise. It has helped me lose the weight faster than anything else. I was not a HUGE eater but would graze throughout the day and then eat a big dinner at night and go to bed and also fast food was a mainstay for me. Now I honestly don't think about food as a comfort or my friend - only as a means of how to get enough Protein in for the day. When I exercise regularly, I lose. when I don't it slows way down.

There has to be some self-imposed discipline and self control to leave the food and go find something else to preoccupy yourself - other wise it is just sabatoge all the time.

Quite a role to be both a MOM and weight loss advocate. She has to really want it for herself or it will just be a stagnant experiment.

Best of Luck to YOU & YOUR daughter.

Her appt is today right? Let us know how it goes :w00t:

Yes. Her appointment is at 2:00 so we will be leaving here in about 15 minutes for the 3 hour drive. I hope we get some things settled becuase this is another day off work for me and six hours in the car wears me out. Its worth it but it will be easier once we get things rolling and I'm not going in there every two weeks. He has a satellite office now thats closer but its only one day a month so its hard to get those appointments and theres no floro there.:tt1:

Her appt is today right? Let us know how it goes :)

Well, we went for her appointment and I layed it all out....why we were there and what we wanted and how we wanted it. Any any every question either one of us had, we asked. The dietician was first. She said she thought this was all due to not being at and/or finding her sweet spot. Then we met with the NP. We hadn't met with this one before and we both really liked her. She was oozing with information and good ideas. We told her what we wanted and she said they take a look under the flouro and she did. Good news is that the pouch is not stretched and the band is sitting where it should be. She gave her the barium and said there was obvious restriction but was still room for more. She had her then lay down so she should withdraw the saline and check it (that was awsome to watch!). All 8.2 cc appeared to be there but she added .3 more putting her at 8.5 cc. I pray that this is the fill that does it. She isn't sure yet because she was on liquids and wasn't feeling the best. Yesterday all she ate was a yogurt for her lunch. I assume that was just because she wasn't feeling well not becuase of restriction or anything. So I guess its too soon to tell. Like I said I've seen her ate a noticed how much and it was definately more than what others are saying so I'm hoping that was the real issue here. Like I said, I guess she assumed that this just wasnt going to work for her. The doc or dietician never used the word sweet spot or described how it should feel so she was just kind of muddling along. She always was the kind of kid that would just go around not feeling well instead of telling you so that you would know. I guess she hadn't said anything becuase she thought that this was just the way it was. The NP assurred her that they "would get her there. Don't worry." I pray that tomorrow she gets up and when she starts to eat she hits that point and knows it for sure. If so we will probably Celebrate. We are going to start a Water aerobics class but wow memberships are sure expensive. I refuse to committ to something for 12 months just becuase of the job situations right now. I wish she could find a part time job at the ymca or something so she could make friends there and maybe get more pumped about fitness.

Sorry guys if I sound studid becuase I keeping saying "we." I guess I do that becuase I have an investment ($$$) in this too. It's worth every cent if it will work for her.

Does anyone out there have this large of a fill? She has had 7 fills, this doesn't include one month he took .2 out and then the next month put it back. That seemed like that slowed things down too. Plus as I mentioned before there were two months, December and January, when we werent able to make it to the appointment due to the weather. We had to reschedule and reschedule. Anyhow she is at 8.5 in the 9 cc band.:crying: I would love to hear from anyone who has this amount or more in their band and what their experience has been like.

Thanks Mom for returning to update. I was very curious.

I am very glad to hear the band is in the right place and all is well. that's great they took the time to explain to her and reassure her of the steps that it takes to make this weightloss sucessful.

They use man different size bands on people and they usually don't know which size they are going to use till they go into surgery and see which one would fit better. I have a 4cc band. I have 2.75 CC in it. Did you say she had a 10cc band? They have I believe 4,10,14 cc. The amount of Fluid in them is very different for everyone. I have even heard of some people only having 1 fill or 20 fills. I think that's why it's called the sweet spot... you just have to find it.

She should be fine then. It's just going to take tinkering with it now to hit that sweet spot.

In some rare cases they have put the max in the band. If she has had to have some unfill before i think she is very close. Now that they have ruled out any issues with the band it really is time to look more closely as to what, where, when and how much she eats. If she is getting in all her liquids etc.

This might just be what she needed time will tell though.

Hi MOM-

Glad to hear her appointment went well. You and I don't live so far apart!

Keep in mind that usually after a fill, there is irritation/swelling that can occur. She will need to take it easy over the next day or two and maybe be on liquids or soft/mushy things. She may not know her true restriction amount for a few weeks. It's strange, but that seems to happen to many people.

I hope she finds some restriction that works for her and along with that and the weight loss, she may find motivation. Don't worry!

Guess What!! Yesterday for lunch and today for Breakfast she was unable to eat more than a few bites until she was full. Could this really be the magic day she's been waiting for? I'm thrilled.:tongue_smilie:

I hope so too. Has she signed up to be on the boards for support? She might really benefit from having some other people like her to bounce stuff off of.

Good luck!

Hello Carol,

I too have a April surgery date. April 7th to be exact! I am sooooooo excited and nervous at the same time. I currently am on the pre-op liquid diet. It's difficult however, I am so ready nothing is going to tempt me. Carol I wish you well on your journey.

Hi Renee-welcome!

Most of us on this thread were banded last year and we are quickly approaching our one year 'bandiversaries'. You are more than welcome to join us as you prepare for your band!

How are you doing? Are you ready? Do you have questions? Reading the main boards is a really good way to learn about the band, the diets/exercise, the struggles and many other issues. Lots of support out here...LBT is great!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
