Do you have any problems with the sushi rolls? I got banded on February 13 and I love sushi rolls. I was not for sure if I was still going to be able to eat sushi.

Thanks!

I've not had many problems w/rice - Only once, and I think it was because I ate too fast. The place I frequent has alternatives to "rice" rolls - and I'm trying some of those each time, last night I tried a roll that was wrapped in a thin layer of cucumber - very tasty.

You should have NO problem w/sushi !!

Meals though, I would have to say the bbq chicken slow cooker style .. it is totally fab! I had to tweak the recipe to make it more health conscious (original recipe is whole skin on roasting bird) but in the end it only has 8g fat per serving ... its totally DELISH! It will make a great blended "smoothy" for the solid liquid stage... LOL

Pix

Would you share your recipe for the slow cooker bbq chicken (healthy of course :-) ) also....do you think that you could make this with roast beef?

Thanks.

Jackie

At first I didn't have a problem with the sushi rolls but as I got more fills the sticky rice was too sticky for me. Also, the seaweed makes it hard to take small enough bites. The solution is that I get the rolls without rice and ask for soybean paper instead of seaweed. I have had no problems getting maki this way.

I have also been loving ceviche lately. They have it at asian restaurants and mexican ones. Its great because there are no carbs and it is packed with Protein and tastes very satisfying.

Thank you both for your responses. I will have to look out for the cucumber wrap or aks for the soybean paper without rice if I have problems once I get a fill. I love sushi so that makes me feel better that I will still be able to have sushi with just a few modifications. Thanks!

I'm such a rube that I have never even tried sushi. Of course, I live in the sticks so I'd probably have to drive three hours to get close to it if I DID want it!

Ceviche is a Mexican dish, I'd describe it as raw fish salsa, but that sounds really gross. What happens is the fish is "cooked" by the acids in lemon/lime juice. So it's usually like diced up fish, cilantro, onions, maybe peppers, or whatever else, with lime juice.. that's how I remember it in Mexico anyway. It is very good even if it sounds weird.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
