I am scheduled for May

Recommended Posts

Yeah, another 22nd B-dayer, apparently we have quite a few of us (of course)!

Erica/Kammi-I'm also in the Seattle area, lots of local fans here. Well technically I'm living in Puyallup, work in Seattle, and my surgery is in Federal Way! Ha ha, yes it's true, I travel around Puget Sound too much.

:party:Woohoo - I'm a Seatteite too! Hey Miles, where in Federal Way is your surgery? I'm at St. Francis, Dr. OH. I have an EGD tomorrow and have to start liquids at 6pm. Sooo I've been eating all day, as if today was my last feeding! -tehe

-Hi Erica, we have the same weight to loose so I know how you feel. I've been lazy all winter and only walking my dogs to the mailbox. Now with the nice weather, I'm back to walking around the block, it's a big block . The really sad thing.. in my youth/early twenties.. my lowest weight was 123lbs. Thanks only to the Military! I don't care if I see that number again, but I am hoping for 150. So, I plan on working out - A LOT and hope like heck it works!

Best of luck to all May Flowers!

Allison - How was your appointment?

Mae and Crystal - I am so glad I don't have to do a liquid diet. I have a low carb diet to follow. I think I can manage to keep things under wraps following it. I have only told 5 people (including my DH) that I am getting lap band and one of them is not my dad who thinks I am supposed to go out to eat with him every Friday night.

WELCOME to all the new May Flowers!

It was pretty easy, I was there for about an hour. The lady was really nice and we just talked about what I normally eat and what foods I should try to eat/avoid with the lapband. I'm so excited to get all this finally going!

I was going to be banded at the WLSC in Everett as that is where I live, went to a seminar there, but too expensive so we are going to Dr. Kuri for a third of the price and more experience with banding.... do you live in the area if you are going to the WLSC Marine?

Kammi in Everett, WA

soon to be banded 5/27/08

Dr. Kuri - Mexico

Glad to hear you made it through the pre-op testing Miles! I am not looking forward to April 30th, when I am scheduled for mine! Good thing it's first thing in the morning so I won't have to go too long on an empty stomach! I keep having thoughts that in the pre-op tets, they discover something that hinders the surgery and I get the bad news that I can't get the Lap Band!

I guess I'm just getting anxious! I can't wait...May 19th can't get here soon enough!

We have a support group in Everett for Dr. Kuri patients twice a month, but let me know when you are coming down sometime and maybe we can meet. No matter where you get the support, it's so nice to have!

I've decided not to tell my mom ahead of time simply because she is old and sick and there is no point in alarming her as that is all it would do, But I do have a small collection of other friends I've shared it with- telling them adamantly that I definitely wanted their support, not their negativity, I guess for me, it has felt "so right" that nothing will stop me. The minute I decided, I felt like a huge weight lifted like now I can really have hope! Warmly, Sufina

hey everyone! Ugh this morning I woke up with the biggest headache and these weird dizzy spells. I got up to go to the bathroom a couple times and actually fell over and could barely see straight. I'm laying down right now (with the laptop on my stomach lol) but I still feel a little weird. I dunno hopefully it goes away. Welcome to all these new may flowers! Still don't have a date yet, next thursday and friday I have all my appointments, and school and work. I have school all day an hour away, then I go straight to the appointment with my PCP to get a letter of medical necessity, then I go straight to work, then straight to the sleep lab an hour away, then back home for bloodwork, then hopefully I have time to go change and go straight to school again, then I have to go straight to the hospital I had the sleep lab in for the psych eval right after school. BUT at least after thats all over I know I'll be closer to my band ^_^ just felt like venting a bit lol. Good luck to everyone! I know this is gonna be a really busy month for all of us!

Hi Seattle. My surgery is with Dr. Oh also!!! The EGD isn't too bad, seems more nerve wracking than it actually ended up being. I played soccer the two days after mine, which wasn't the greatest thing ever, but turned out okay. I can't wait either!!

Looks like a lot of people here from the NW region, awesome. I'm glad we all get to be May Flowers together.

Having trouble getting enough Water in these days *Sigh*

working on that....

Happy Friday everyone.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
