Feb. Bandsters lb. lost so far

Recommended Posts

I was banded 2/27 and as of 03/07 I lost 16 lbs (11 lbs pre-op and 5 lbs since surgery). My tight jeans are not so tight anymore so I do notice a difference. I am hesitant to weigh myself too much but I like to judge how my clothes feel. I don't go back to the Doc again til April 1st so I will have to weigh myself before then!

I'm still on Full liquids until Wed 3/12. I can't wait to have some new foods to eat! I'm dealing with the hunger OK (no cheating).

Keep up the good work everybody!

Jaque,

My doc in the US let me switch to soft, easy to chew foods after my first week. My only restrictions are doughy breads, sticky rice, corn, and stuff I think would be very sticky and could sit like a rock in the stomach.

He said to slowly introduce new foods and take small bites and small portions. He said he bases his post-op diet on how the patient is doing, nothing is set in stone for him.

My portions are about half what they used to be and I am tolerating them well.

It seems odd how different docs do different post-op instruction. I keep reading here what people who were banded around the same time as I are eating and feel guilty. I have asked my DH over and over if I heard the doc wrong because it is so different from others here. He assures me I did not, so I'll stay with what I am doing and continue to heal.

Everyday I feel more myself!

Denise

Banded on Feb 22.08 in canada Dr Amson

I am down 15 lbs since surgery 258-----now 243.....and in canada they do not ask us to go to liquids after surgery ...they say go home and chew lots and small bites....and mke the right choices ...i see the srgeon on Tuesday and will be asking for a fill date .....

I was banded 2-5-08 and am down 22lbs. But I'm so hungry! It's been like a total diet of starvation. I can't get a fill until 3-31. I'm in Alaska and the one Dr. that does fills is on vacation during my 6 week. I guess any weight loss is a bonus before your first fill. I'm counting down the days. I can't wait to be less hungry!! Good luck to all the Feb bandsters!! Chrissie

I was banded on Feb. 14th. I am 30 days post-op. I have lost about 30 lbs so far according to our scales at work. I go for my first fill March 20th. I will get to do the official weigh in at my doctor's office since he says only his scale counts. :(

Hi Chrissie!

I am hungry, too! Especially the last week or so. I think my stomach is healed from the surgery and ready to move on to fills. I am only down a few pounds post-op, and am really looking forward to getting some restriction. It will be nice to be able to use this tool I have inside of me!!

My first fill is scheduled for March 27, but I am thinking of postponing as I am going on a 2 week vacation leaving April 12 and will be on a cruise.

I am reluctant because I'll be out of the country, not because I want to EAT on the cruise. I'd hate to re-gain the few pounds I have lost, but I am afraid I'll have a problem and be thousands of miles away from home with no easy way to reach my doctor.

Hi!

I had surgery Feb 11 and am making steady and slow progress. I am down 27 pounds. I notice that the most was before I could eat for real again. I am scheduled to see doc on 3-26. I am feeling like I am on a baby feeding schedule. I notice I am really hungry every two hours. Am eating about 800-1000 calories and somewhere over 70 grams of Protein daily. I feel great and am loving the exercise. I played golf yesterday with no pain at all....well my body felt none, but a month off hurt the game for sure...

So hang in there all. I look forward to this journey and all that it brings!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
