3 days post op and hungry

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on 2/25/08am, I woke up this morning, with my stomache letting me know that I was hungry. I had 75 gr of Protein yesterday. My doc said to stay around 70grams.

Is there anyone else out there that was this hungry this soon after surgery? Also, I have not had a BM since surgery, should I be worried?

Yes, I was hungry by day 3. I was allowed to eat on day 4 and I was up bright and early making my eggs! I don't know what your post-op diet is so I don't know what you are allowed to eat. I do know that no matter how much Protein you take in, if it is all in liquid form you are going to get hungry. The liquid slides right through and you don't stay satiated for long. Once I got to day 4 and could eat soft Proteins, it was much easier to stay full. Hang in there...relief is coming and you are one day closer to getting rid of that pesky hunger for good, I promise!

Bugalu, I was hungry around day 10. My doc's support staff prepared me for this and told me to make my Protein Drinks thicker during this time. Add a banana or something...it helped. Not having a BM, IMO, is nothing you should worry about because you probably haven't eaten much of anything to produce a BM. My cousin had her surgery 2/20 and experienced the same BM thing. She is fine.

I was starving around day 4, not so bad in the morning, but by night time, I was an angry, hungry witch! It gets much better once you go onto thicker liquids, (broccoli and cheese Soup was yummy)

You may want to call your Dr. about being so hungry, he may have you move up the stages faster - mine did. I was consuming too few calories, so I wasn't loosing very much weight.

I am so glad to have found this forum. I was banded on 2/28 and by 3/1 I was so hungry! I ate 1 oz of fresh mozarella cheese (chewed thoroughly) and felt full. Today I had a few spoonfuls of a scrambled egg, and felt full. I guess it gets a little better every day.

I was so hungry around this same time. Day 3-4 post op. I had to do everything to get my mind off food. Hey, go get a pedicure or manicure!!! Once I got on mushies it was so much easier! HANG IN THERE YOU CAN DO THIS!! I have lost 10 lbs since surgery 2/19/08, but now I am in banster hell and everything is Ok to eat and no fill until 4/03/08!

hi folks... am getting banded tomorrow and, surprise, i'm scouring the boards tonight. someone earlier in this thread mentioned not having a bm despite being 3 days post-op. you might want to double check with your doc, but general anesthesia often, um, backs things up. again, check your doc, but you should consider colace (a stool softener). good luck.

The nurse said I was talking about pizza while on meds LOL I find it really funny since pizza isn't a trigger food for me. Yes, I, too, am hungry (was banded 2/19) and had vivid food dreams that night in the hospital. And as the swelling in the stomach goes down the hunger might return even greater. The head hunger is the worse, tho - the desire to eat what everyone else is. About 3 more weeks before my 1st fill.

And as far as the BM goes I didn't have one until about 9 days post op. Wasn't allowed to eat until 4 days post op so it really was only like 5 days. I was worried 'cause a friend who had bypass a month before ended up having bad internal hemroids (sp?) and I wanted to make sure that didn't happen to me. I took some natural Fiber 'cause they have me on a soft Protein diet for a week. Now I'm MUCH better and everything is leaving as it should :-).

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
