March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Hey all.

So there's a bunch of us in this group, all split up into our different banding days. I was thinking that it might be a good idea to have one master thread as we move through the month, in which all of us could post as we go, from the pioneers going on March 1st to the finalists on March 31st.

I'd love to talk about our anticipation and any worries as we approach our banding date, for people to talk about exactly what happened from the moment they walked into the hospital door until the second they walked out, about how recovery is going, about weight loss and plateaus, about non-scale victories and challenges.

I was thinking that if we all contribute to one thread, it'll form a more substantial channel for information and support. At the moment, I was thinking that we might be too spread out into individual date, and that a central thread would be a really good backbone for the group, in addition to the date-specific threads.

What do you think?

Fenton

I think we might want to give Fenton a bit of a pass on the weigh in - if I read his post correctly it sounds like it might be a bit of a logistical issue. Although, I will seach the web every once in a while for a story about a naked gentleman in Paris just looking for a neighbor's scale...

Fenton - pop into a doctors office (clothed, of course) and ask to weigh in once a week. That will keep you informed. How long did you say you were going to be gone?

You Shamrocks rock... throw an idea out there and we're all over it like green on grass! The comments about Fenton in Paris sure bring a smile to my face.

I put XXX under goal and you can make this some interim goal you have or your end goal, whatever you want or leave it blanked with the XXXs if you want.

This is open to any of the March bandsters, so feel free to jump in anytime. Just follow the copy/pasting rules.

The way it works is you copy the WHOLE list from the last person who posted an update, update or insert your own line (alphabetical order by your username) by copying another person's line, then post the WHOLE updated list for the next person to update. Please be sure you follow this instruction or else we'll find we accidentally drop someone off. I'll try to keep an eye on things to be sure we're okay. Also, adjust the spacing on your line with the .... so the numbers stay lined up if you can.

Starting Weight is where you are now at December 2008 not where you started  originally.

Bring the copy/paste rules along as we go.

No fill for me today. MD wants to still take it easy on my stomach. She is suggesting no dairy for a month and then an esophogram. She is concerned I may have an ulcer, but will wait on the endoscopy until the result of the esophogram is in.

PS I think Fenton would have a hard time finding a scale to use. Many scales don't go over 300 lbs. Most medical offices would not let him use their equiptment.

I would just buy one, but that is an issue for Jonathan to decide on.

Sparkpeople had a thing about the benefits of eating slowly in one of the emails that they barrage me with each day. But it also had good advice on how to slow down:

Here are some practical tips for chewing more thoroughly and eating more slowly:

Give yourself enough time to eat—at least 20-30 minutes just to eat the meal, plus additional time to prepare it.

Don’t eat amidst distractions, like the TV, computer, or while driving.

Be fully present while you eat. Notice the smell, temperature, texture, color, and subtle flavor differences of each food you consume.

Take smaller portions, taking a break before refilling.

Put your fork down after each bite.

Eat mindfully, chewing each bite as many times as necessary to pulverize any texture.

If you’re eating in a group, be aware of the speed at which others are eating. Challenge yourself to be the last to finish.

The other good one is to try to alternate bites of food - Protein, then vegetable, protein, then vegetable then starch, then protein etc. That way each mouthful has a richer, more intriguing taste.

Ok. I think my computer is broken. When I try to copy and paste the format goes all wrong. I am pleased. I did weigh myself. So I have lost 2.6 pounds. I am now down to 229. So that equals a 90 pound weight loss for me since surgery in March. Is anyone else having a hard time believing that they could lose their weight?

Looks like we are all surviving the holidays. No weight gain would be a great task. Remember those holiday season when and added 5-10 # would be the norm. Just think where we all were a year ago and how far we have all come since then.

Congratulations to all of us!!

I couldn't agree more, Lynn!

I am just so pleased that I am making it through an entire holiday season without gaining! I was definitely in the 'upper end' of the five to ten pound gain group! It was usually the beginning of a terrible spiral for me that lasted most of the winter.

Even with the few indiscretions I've had, it's 1,000 times better than ever before!

I was not sure what we were putting for our goal. Looks like there is no time line, just a final goal. sounds good to me!
