March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Recommended Posts

Anyone else here finally allowing themselves to believe this may actually work? I guess the past 3 months I have sort of had the same mentality of my preivious diet and gimmic years. I just kept waiting to fail. It's really only in the past couple of weeks that I find myself believing this really is going to be it for me. The weight will be off and stay off. It's so nice to allow myself the unbelievable decadence of enjoying losing weight.

I would love a wii fit. I'm saving my pennies and hopefuly within the next month I'll be able to finagle one into my budget. Those of you who have it, do you use it? Do you break a sweat using it? It looks so cool.

I've been told that when at proper restriction you should not be able to eat a whole burger or sandwich including the bread. I am now at the point where I eat the inside but not the bread. I have good restiction.

Thanks for all the congrats on my surpassing the 250 mark....Onederland, here I come!!

First off, Mylah: I think the bodybugg is either $9.99 a month, or $99 a year, depending on how you pay. Either way, it's outrageous.

As far as the Wii Fit goes, the trick is actually finding them. I was prepared to wait for months - which isn't an issue, because I'm still 54 pounds above the maximum weight - but I just stuck my head in the store as I passed, asked if they had one, and, to my amazement, they did, and I got the last one.

I may take A-Dub's advice and try get a little exercise with the boxing.

Oh, and speaking of A-dub, the answer is, of course, "incorrigibly neurotic Diva"...

I know what you mean about not really believing it, Christine. It does seem unreal, doesn't it? I'm down, what, 90 pounds in 5 months.

Of course, I still feel the same, so...

Actually, that's completely untrue: I feel the same SIZE, but I'm now drowning in my clothes, and I walk for miles and am not out of breath, and getting out of a chair is something I do effortlessly, without thought.

I think that last one is something I feel particularly acutely - that I'm inside my body again, and my body works.

I was at the mall yesterday and thought there was a celebrity having a meet & greet, so many people crowded around the central strip. As I got closer I started to notice the banners for WiiFit. They were having a demo day for the WiiFit and had 20 of the things set up and ready for playing. There were lines at each one. Everyone looked to be having a great time. Especially the guys watching the girls hula hooping.

I had an interesting talk with my trainer/nutritionist the other day. He wanted to measure me again to see my progress. I didn't want too. I tried to explain that I knew I was losing weight and inches because my clothes are fitting differently. He insisted that I needed to SEE the progress on paper. "Everyone wants to see their progress." So he measured away. For some reason I was disappointed in the results. My head thinks I should have lost more inches. I was really bummed. He was happy with the progress. I asked him if it was more important for him to be happy or me? Ya see I was happy with the progress as seen from the clothing standpoint. Like someone said here about wearing clothes that fit and seeing the proof that things are going well. Now I have these tape measure numbers in my head. They didn't mean anything to me until he made a big deal out of them. Yet I can't accept his judgment that the numbers are good. It really wrecked the workout that day. My head was somewhere else. He kept saying not to let it get to me. Ya easy for him.

I'm finally in a good place with this journey. I'm accepting that it will take me a while to get to a healthy weight. I'm working with the band. I'm getting into a groove with exercising. I've set a goal with the Triathlon. I've set a weight goal to be 200 by my anniversary (10/12). I think like Christine said I'm actually allowing myself to believe this is working. I think my judgment is the best. But now someone tossed a wrench in the works.

Grrrr. It's so frustrating. :tt2:

But Amanda, what has changed? Nothing. Your clothes are looser, you're feeling better, you know where you are and you know where you're going! The numbers may not be where you want them to be, but you're going in the right direction - hell, you're training for a Triathlon! You'll get the numbers you want in the end.

REALLY accept that it takes time, and keep going!

There is no other option.

Haha.. No Jello shots and kayaking for me today! It's a rainy miserable day. Maybe on the 4th? Although, the jello shots do sound fantastic right about now:)

welcome to onederland, kpod. It does feel great, doesn't it.

Enjoy the shopping.

I had to buy a few more things today.. I only had 3 pairs of pants that fit for a 5 day work-week. Thank goodness there were major sales going on. $5.99 for Gloria Vanderbilt slacks....can't beat that, and they are size 16!!!!! So ended up with 3 new outfilts for just under $50.. :(

Also, age has hit, I have brusitis in my shoulder, have to take it a bit easy for a few days, no sewimming and Water aerobics!!! Guess my option is lots of walking!

Jonathan- its just that I thought I was finally getting my sh*t together and a simple thing like measurements can set me off.

Whatever!

I did a run through of the Tri today, not in the correct order and not rushing from one to the other. I was quite surprised that I did it all, and in a respectful time. Im a bit worn out and will sleep GOOD tonight, but I'm terribly happy too.

Shopping & sales two of my favorite words.

Jello shots- hhmmm that sounds good too.(there's Protein in Jello, right?)

Thanks Lynn! It sure does feel good.. It's been a long time coming!

Amanda- Protein in Jello shots? Sure! If you want there to be:) Congrats on your training, and your good time as well. That must make you feel fabulous!

I totally know how you feel about the measurements. It is hard to see numbers lower than what we expect, when we've been working so hard to see the higher numbers. It's really inspiring that you are going through all of this training for the triathlon, and I'm sure that you will start seeing those numbers where you want them sooner than later! You go girl:)

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
