How much did you lose pre-op?

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I weighed myself for the first time today since i started Optifast (which was a week and a half ago...) and ive only lost about 1.5 kilos...is this normal?? i just feel like i should have lost alot more than that because ive heard alot on here about people losing 15kg plus? I feel almost cheated! ive been working my bum off this week!

Will my doctor be dissapointed??

Will i still be able to have surgery??

I lost 5kg prior to surgery and have lost another 3.2kg in the 6 days post surgery. I am very happy with my weight loss so far as any loss is still a loss.

Don't stress too much over what you will lose before surgery. The most important is that you do the Optifast as your doc suggested as it not only is there for weight loss, but to shrink the liver for surgery and to prepare you for the weeks after surgery.

Remember everyone is different and will lose differently. And again, any loss is a loss and it will never come back again. :smile2:

Keep up the good work Aus_girl..

The Dr's are more concerned what's going on inside. So long as you've stuck to it it should have shrunk your liver which is all the Dr's concerned about pre-op to make the surgery as safe as possible for you.

Everyone loses at a different rate and they know that.

Hi ladies, i'm in Sydeny, and being banded in one month. I'm rearing to go.

I've had all my pre-op appointments, etc with my clinic, surgeon, dietician, etc - and nobody has mentioned a pre-op diet to me? Perhaps this is not required for everyone? I should probably ring the surgeon's office and double check.

If they haven't told you by now and given you the pre-op diet info then probably not. My sisters surgeon didn't require her to. All surgeons are different but they would have told you by now if you had to.

i lost 6.7kg on Optifast (i will admit i did cheat a little on optifast. i had carrots and a few pieces of potato with my veggies), drank alcohol during the last week and had rice Snacks once.

my surgeon had no problems with my liver and the operation went fine.

i weighed myself since the operation and i had gained .5 of a kg! (i'm assuming thats because of all the gas and me looking like im pregnant!)

will weigh myself tomorrow! looking forward to it :blushing:

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
