March Exercise Challenge!

Recommended Posts

Alright folks! Now that everyone is a month or almost a month post-op I think that we need to come up with our own March exercise challenge. I know a few people had expressed interest in this previously and we are knocking on March's door here so let's get something planned! Does anyone have any ideas for what the challenge should be?

Let's get our bum's moving and get our exercise groove on!

I'm up for anything, but not very creative. How do we do this, a mileage in a month challenge?? I'm up for anything.

Hmm, I was thinking about that and then started poking around on other monthly threads to see how they did that. And I was thinking... for our first exercise challenge should we perhaps set a "minutes" goal rather than a "mileage" one while people figure out they are going to do exercise.

So for example, there are 4 weeks and a couple days in March.. what if we set a minimum goal of 600 minutes of exercise for the month of March? That's a minimum of 150 minutes a week (30 minutes, 5 x a week). Let me know what you guys think...

Sounds official enough to me. Maybe we can go ahead and make a plan to increase it monthly or something as we get more svelte. I love that word, I try to use it at every open opportunity!!

I'm up for it, I say we do minutes first, then maybe mileage. In few months we should all commit to trying something "different" (a video, class, or even something silly like roller skating) for exercise and then bring it back to the group so we can all have some new ideas

Count me in as well! So...600 minutes for March Challenge?

Oh, should we come up with an official name so we can easily find the thread? Here are some ideas with a play on words-type idea:

600 Minute March! (get it?)

Marchin' the Minutes

The MinuteBand March

...I'm just brainstorming.

600 Minute March! is great, I love that! Should we start a new thread or do you just want me to rename this one?

My bikes little computer readout thing doesn't work anymore, and I replaced the expensive button batteries. So I go for the minutes on the bike for me.

I routinely walk, no pedometer either, but have clocked it with the car, and its about 1 mile. When I walk from Midtown Manhattan to Lower Manhattan to catch the train home its also about 1 mile, and I only do it when the weather is warmer.

I am starting a Pilates class, 4 Mondays, one hour each class, $80 total, figured I would try to learn it, starts Monday, March 10th..

I was going to say everyone can set their own goals in minutes or miles or workouts(however long they may be) but 600 minutes is totally fine!

Ang, there's a way to rename the thread? If you can why don't you rename it "Knockouts 600 Minute March Exercise Challenge". Not that we don't want other people joining, but it makes it special for us knockouts!

I want to do Pilates so bad!! I haven't been able to find a class yet. There is a belly dancing class around me though. It doesn't start until May, think I'm gonna have to try it!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
