I had a sleep study done in my home before surgery. Someone came to my house and hooked me up with all sorts of wires, then monitored me from another room. Half way through the night, she put me on a cpap machine then monitored me the rest of the night. I ended up having severe sleep apnea and have been on a cpap machine ever since.

I sleep much better now, and don't feel tired all the time.

I had to have a sleep study also. I spent the night at the hospital in a special room set up for sleep studies. They hooked me up to a lot of wires and let me watch TV or read until it was time for lights out. A nurse monitored me from another room while I slept. I was ready to go by 7 a.m. They discovered I had sleep apnea as well, so I'm on a machine, too. They told me to bring my machine when I had surgery in case I needed it. I am hopeful that losing some weight will cure the sleep apnea. Time will tell.

I went for my big appt. too and then a week later had my sleep study. That was 2/17/08...I'm still waiting to hear if I have apnea???? The tech said I did not sleep enough for them to put on the Cpap machine...she had told me at the beginning that they would during the night...anyway, no machine all night. I only slept for 2 long stretches which is what I do at home too? So, I may have to go again for them to callibrate the machine...if I need it...Im waiting!!!!

I actually requested a sleep study thinking it would help my chances of being approved for the LapBand if I had sleep apnea to add to my comorbidities, I stayed the night at the sleep lab, they hooked me up to a cpap in the middle of the night and found that I do have sleep apnea, I too had to take my machine to the hospital, I never knew that sleep apnea could cause headaches, I've been waking up with headaches for years, it was a real eye opener for me.

23_34_3.gif Hi to everyone

I am worried about the results of my sleep Apnea Test. I had

it 4 weeks ago, I go see the Sleep Dr. 3-05-08, I just pray

that I don't have it. I have no Insurance and it cost $3,064.00,

so I don't want to have another test.

It was mandatory to have this test by Lap Band Surgeron.

All other test have been done, I have lost 20lbs and have

23_50_3.gif another 10 to have lost my 10% of my weight before they

scheule surgery.

Anyone else concered about the Sleep Test and that you

might have to do it a again?

Maybe I worry to much.................................................

I went to a pulmonary specialist end of December, and had my sleep apnea testing done january 4th. Within 2 weeks Ihad my results moderate to severe sleep apnea and was put on CPAP 1-28. Its been almost 30 days and made a WORLD of difference. I am a whole new person. My insurance coordinator at the surgery center advised it would be a good idea to get it done, but by then Id already made my apt.

The testing was done at a BEAUTIFUL facility on the Water and they made everything very comfortable and smooth. (as smooth and that goop on your head can go) I got there at around 6pm and was out by 6:30 am the next morning. Dotn sweat it. Best thing I ever did.

I found out today I do go back for the Cpap calibration. OK so everyone loves having it because you sleep so much better but...I hate things on me at night and I twist around the whole bed. Granted, if I slept maybe I would be in one position...but...Also, I'm claustraphobic so things on my face???? I'm trying to have a good attitude because I hear it is so dangerous but....UGH! Funny, I go in for a band and come out with a mask first....I'm sure it is very sexy too! Well, breathing is better than not! See, I'm trying to have a good attitude!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
