Throbbing Pain Port or Band? HELP!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I had my surgery on January 17, 2008 and I am one month post op. I am having this throbbing pain and I'm not sure where it's coming from. It could be my port or could it be the band? I have not had a fill yet but I am concerned about this throbbing pain I'm having. Has anyone else experienced pain like this?

Jen

Most likely it's your port. I'm only 2 1/2 weeks out, and still having port pain. I know that's what it is because I can feel it under my skin when I press in that area. You wouldn't be able to feel the band itself. I've heard it can take anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks for port pain to disappear.

Hey Kjeter, We Were Banded On The Same Day. I Just Got Back From My First Post Op Appointment And Have Only Lost 8.5 Pounds. I Am So Disappointed. Is The 18lbs Including You Pre Op Lbs As Well? Just Wondering...

I think that the pain is coming from your port. I have the same deal going on but the pain is getting better. Sometimes when I move quickly or oddly I will get a sharp pain as well but I think it's normal. I've lost 17 pounds and had my surgery on February 4th. However, 13 of that was pre-op. I'm going to be patient because I think the body is traumatized and needs to adjust. Then the weight will come falling off.

I had my surgery on February 6th and have only lost 5 pounds since. I choose not to be discouraged as I did lose 30 pounds in the 7 months prior to my surgery. As for post-op pain, I'm having stomach cramps -- and I think it is my stomach and not coming from the port. I can feel the port, and I did do some strenuous coughing after my surgery and thought I tore some of the port stitches (who knows!) but that feels pretty good now. I'm having my first post-op check in a couple of days and I'll be sure to ask what is what.

J Mac, yes, the 18 pounds I lost includes 5 from the pre-op diet, which I was on for a week and a half. I tend to lose weight pretty easily. It's keeping it off that has been impossible, which is why I chose lap band this time. A few years ago, I lost 74 pounds on Medifast, then went through some hard personal stuff, and it all came back, plus five pounds. That's the story of my life. I'm confident that with the lap band I'll be able to maintain it this time. I think it's so cool that just the tiniest meal makes me feel like I've just had Thanksgiving dinner! I haven't had my first fill yet, so it's getting easier to eat more, but I'm making sure to keep the portions small and eat only very healthy foods.

I am 15 days past surgery and I still have port pain - and it seems to be getting gradually better - but definately still there - I also have problems moving certain ways - I can actually "feel" it in there and then feel like it is "pulling" I don't like it but I suppose part of it is just normal healing. I also "strained" my stomach getting out of the bathtub last night (my first REAL soaker since the surgery) and then even felt naseaus after.

Didn't you say you had yours with an open surgery? I would imagine you have a lot more healing to do than those of us that had it laparascopically. And they didn't say I could do a soak for a couple of weeks. - still showering.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
