:(:wub:Hi family,

My question is, has anybody ever cheated on the post-op liquid or mushies diet and if so what happened? I was banded 2/14 (almost a week ago and I feel great) and was told to do liquids for two weeks. I really don't have that great of an appetite but my stomach keeps making this acid and the liquids just isn't doing it for me. Every now and then during the day, I'd eat a small slice of meat and chew it until it is almost nothing then swallow just to settle my stomach. It does help, but I don't want to mess anything up either. What could happen if I cheat now, I was told that the pathway to the "larger" stomach could get clogged, but if I chew the small portion to past mush or even blend something with lots of Water, could I be okay? The only pain I'm having now is this acid or gas in my STOMACH. (The other gas is gone.) I don't know if I can make it through these weeks. Thanks.

I would ask if you are doing the Protein shakes? This might soothe your stomach a bit.

My doc only required liquid diet for two days (clear liquids) and then they move us to what they call a FULL liquid diet which is thin oatmeal, smashed up cottage cheese, (even mashed potatoes made thin) - for two weeks... then on to mushy/pureed food and then regular food.

I too, when I try something new will chew it until it's liquid state - I'm not sure about meat tho. I think the theory is not to eat anything more solid while you are healing.

I am glad to read this post. I am in the same boat. I was banded Feb. 13, and did very well n my liquids until Sunday. I had some tortilla Soup from On the Border, and just sipped the broth (except for a few well chewed bites of the chicken and rice) - Whoops. Now I am worried I might have sabbotaged my band. Today, 6 days post op, I had some mashed potatoes - not exactly liquid. What is wrong with me??? Do you think I did any damage??

Well I Would Have To Say I Did Cheat. I Had Surgery In Mexico With Dr. Ortiz And He Strongly Push His Pt's To Be On liquids For 21 Days!! It Seemed Like Forever. The First Week It Was Like Clear Liquids, Then By The 10th Day I Was Able To Start Creamed Soups With No Chunks And Yogart. I Think By The 14th Day I Cheated. I Tried A Couple Of Noodles But Chewed Them Really Well And I Also Tried Really Thin Mashed Potatoes. I Knew It Was Really Wrong To Do. I Wasn't Even Hungry It Was All In My Head That I Thought I Just Needed That food. I Came Out Ok But I Wouldn't Advise You To Keep Doing It. Our Doctor's Tells Us Things To Prevent Complication. The Risk Of Band Slipping And Poor Healing Is Huge When You Eat Solids Before Your Suppose To. They Place A Few Stiches In Place To Help The Band Stay In Place Until The Scar Tissue Can Form And Help Make A Anchor For The Band To Stay In Place. If You Eat Something That Your Not Suppose To Your Risking The Stiches To Be Pulled Out And The Band Slipping. Like I Said I Did Cheat But I Don't Recomend It.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
