Hello From Maryland

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I am scheduled to have surgery on Feb 26. I was originally scheduled for Feb 15, but my doctor got the flu. I was all ready and at 3pm the day before, I got the call that my surgery wouldn't happen the next day. (certainly not easy to hear after all I had to eat or drink was about 4 juice boxes and a cup of broth!) Needless to say, I was not happy. But, I'm now getting back into the groove and gearing up again for the 26th. I can't wait! I'm looking forward to sharing my successes and challanges with all of you!

PS...HOW DO I GET MY WEIGHT LOSS TICKER TO WORK?

Hi Bee! Sorry to hear you had a delay in your surgery, but it sounds like things are back on track for you.

I've been lurking on this site for a month, and I've learned so much from everyone here. I originally came to this site to research why my best friend decided to go with gastric bypass instead of lap-band. In my research, I discovered that lap-band sounded like a good option for me! I've been to a seminar, and I'm now awaiting a call from the surgeon's office for a consult. I'm hoping to get the surgery done by the end of May, so wish me luck!

If someone doesn't answer you about the ticker, you can search for it and I know I've seen multiple posts about it. I'm not officially putting one up until I've done the consult!

How long did you research this before you decided to do it?

Hi Luigismama,

Thank you for your reply! I researched this surgery for over a year before I actually decided to do it. I went to an info session in Sept '06, but was scared and decided to try weight watchers "one more time." Finally, I realized that I really needed to do this. My doctor said that I would be a candidate for either surgery. But, for me, the lap band was better. I liked that it was an outpatient surgery, not as many side effects, and tool to aid in weight loss. I scheduled my consult in July 2007 and by Jan 2008 I had a surgery date! (My insurance required 6 mos of supervised weight loss).

Good luck on your consult! Once you've decided to have the surgery, it is really an exciting journey. I just found this website 2 days before my previous surgery date and it has been really helpful.

Hi Ms. Bee,

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery. Sorry to hear about the delay. Who is your surgeon and where in Maryland are you from? I'm from Southern Maryland and my surgeon is Dr. Brody. Anyway...regarding your ticker. Go to tickerfactory.com. You can set it up there and cut and paste the URL into your signature.

Good luck with everything.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
