4 weeks out - what are you eating?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Banded on Jan 21 and I've lost 22 lbs! Okay, had one week clear, one week mushy and 2 weeks pureed - 3 oz, 5 x per day. Now, I'm supposed to start on real food. Guidelines are 1 cup ,3 x day and 1/2 Protein bar for a snack. I made some high Protein Soups today to last through the week but I'm looking for more choices. Any suggestions? And, is this keeping with the "normal" food plan most people are given?

Can I smush a piece of pizza into a cup? HA!

Thanks!

Ha Ha...no pizza in a cup I'm afraid!! My surgeon's office has me do 4 oz Protein, and up to a cup of vegetable for each meal (up to a 1/2 cup of fruit after that if you're able). I was able to eat that until my 2nd fill on Friday, now I'm just progressing back to ground foods and seem to feel more restricted.

I have a great recipe! packed with protein. If you look under the 2008 thread and then go to the Jan 08 thread, look for the thread that is entitled New recipe with tons of protein! It is pumpkin Black bean Soup. Don't let the name fool you, it is fabulous! I'm on the same ttrack as you are! Good luck.

If you are able to eat normal food now, why would you mush stuff up? I thought normal food meant normal food. I could eat chicken, fish, turkey, legumes, eggs, and cottage cheese until my first fill. After my first fill I could eat everything - started on veggies with my Proteins and never mushed anything, in fact was advised against it because the band works best with solid foods.

I got banded 2 days after and I can eat almost anything, as long as I chew it, however, I wish I would have stuck to eating like I was orginally advised because now I feel like I am off track. Hopefully everything will be ok after 1st fill:sad:

hello I had my surgery on 6 December, and I have to admit after reading all these different notes, everyone's doctor seems to be doing something different. I am still confused...however, I started working on 17 December, and after clearance from my doc, to start eating real food, I have been doing the weight watchers smart ones for lunch. Loaded with protien. Only caution is the sodium level can be a little high it you have high blood pressure. Todays meal had 21 gms of protien...it was the bistro penne pollo (chicken).

I am also into the veggie burgers by morning star. I even eat them for Breakfast with a little mustard of salsa. Yum....

I have my little baby plate that equates to the 4ounces of food per meal. I have not been cleared for Snacks yet.

hope that gives you some ideas. I would love to get some of your reciepes for the high protien soups...I love Soups.< /p>

Risha:smile2:

Everything I've read says Soups are discouraged except when you are on liquids only. I guess that's for the same reason that you aren't supposed to drink with your meals. All that liquid just washes the food right through.

When I introduced real food back into my diet, I had a few staples that really worked well. Just remember to chew thouroughly!

1 - Grilled or blacked chicken or salmon salads with lots of veggies, dressing on the side

2 - Any light, flakey fish..grilled

3 - Baked potatoes with cottage cheese

4 - Greek yogurt with sliced banana

5 - Hummus with veggies on the side

6 - tuna salad, egg salad served on cucumber slices

7 - Cottage cheese pancakes

8 - Guacamole with veggies to dip

9 - Soy crisps, cheese crisps

All make yourself to control the amount of fat and Protein. If you are dining out, you can find most of these meals, just adapt the order as much as possible, and plan on bringing AT LEAST half the portion home.

I am not even banded yet but all that sounds so good right now.

I was banded in the 23 of Jan. I eat normal foods now, just chewed thoroughly. A lean cuisine meal is just about right in portion for me. I eat Cereal, oatmeal and eggs for Breakfast. lunch a frozen meal and dinner - 3oz of protiean, carb and veggies. I have lost 22 lbs and feeling good.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
