Hi everyone - we decided to walk in Galleria Mall on Saturday morning. We will meet at 8:30 am at the upper mall entrance by Macys. Hope to see new people who kept using the cold as an excuse!

I went to the seminar last night and I met a couple also starting this journey. I told them about this forum and how helpful it has been. The Dr.s were straight forward and honest . I learned a lot and can't wait to get the process going.

hey bugs!! did you get your appointment yet?:cursing:

well just got on the scale this morning. somehow i gained half a pound? what the #$%^&* how did this crap happen? I have to stop this stuff. I think i'm addicted to my scale now. Does anyone else miss being able to chew food? UGH!

Hey All and Hey Jason,, How have you been doing ? Sorry I couldn't make the meeting but I woke up that morning with an eye infection and I was afraid that it would have been contagious. S

o I hear that I missed a good meeting. I went to see the doc yesterday and I guess he had emergency surgery so I saw the Nurse and Nutritionist only. I am now on pureed foods starting today. Well this morning I had a soft scramble egg (mushed with a fork) and 1/4 cup cream of wheat. I am feeling satisfied. I bought some of the knorrs cream Soups and they have really saved me the last week or so. Couldn't stand the liquids only. I only got down 6 lbs since surgery so it appears that you are doing better than I am. I have my next appointment in 5 weeks.. Can't wait to take a bath.. I hate showers !! Yes, I am missing the chewing of my food. It'll come soon enough.

Hi NBflo Girl, My surgery was on the 7th. pureed foods are great compared to liquid. I'm down 8lbs since preop appt. I actually forgot I had the band and drank something while eating and I felt full right up to my neck-scary, I still have a large scabbed area thats tender wear thy put the port but evething else feels good. Linda, I'm sorry I didm't make the meeting but my daughter came home from UB that night {lives on campus} had a party on saturday but hung around home on wed. I do need to meet with you guys because I've overdone it a few times and do not want to fail on this journey.

Everyone. when I went for my 1 week appt. Posner had said in the hospital that I had no restriction but when I met with the NP at my appt. she said that the band is primed with Fluid whin the put it in and then they let some fluid drain to gravity while they hook it up to the port so they really don't know how much is the band- everyone is different . That's why we fill out that questionnaire regarding how nuch we can eat and drink.

Hi, Since Posner did your surgery, which band did you get ? I got the Realize band but the doc said they are both exactly the same except for the port. The port on the Realize band is flatter. Sounds like your doing good. Do you ever feel like you have a very tight bra on when you are not even wearing one ? I forgot to ask the nurse yesterday what that means. Does anyone know ?

NBflo Girl, Dr. Posner gave me the realize band also. Did he put that wonderful "glue" on you also. I've unfortunatley have "tested" my band a few times eating normal food and have become uncormfortably full. I have been eating with my mind instead of stopping when I'm full. Has anyone else had this issue. Please help. I guess old habits are hard to break.

Buckets in the beginning we all have tested our band, or at least until we get stuck! I am eating way more than I should be able to but don't feel it in my chest, just in my abdomen, like you said uncomfortably full. Hopefully I will get a fill on Tuesday when I go for my 6 week check up.

Linda, if you have lost 1-2 pounds a week you will not get a fill most likely. Seems like you have lost even faster than that. I just dont want you to be disappointed if they wont fill you.

Shar, I had some chest tightness and shortness of breath after the surgery, it lasted for 2 or 3 weeks. someone else mentioned it to me recently too, maybe a lady named kathy that I met while waiting for my appointment.

I am dying to see what the Realize band ports look like installed, hopefully one of you will show us. My port is not too bad, but I still have plenty of blubber over it. Not sure if it will be a problem or not. Dr. Hoffman did tell me that they can put in a low profile port down the road if necessary. I can only hope to one day lose enough that the port shows (or that I can look down and see my feet, LOL!)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
