Tattoos & Losing Weight

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Firstly, what is a "sticky"?

My husband was just having this conversation with our tattooist, on my behalf, after telling him I was having the surgery done. He reckons that it depends on where they are on the body, but he doesn't think they'll change alot, especially if you tone-up well.

I have a vested interest because I have the following tatts. This will be the first time I've ever listed and counted them. I'll start from the bottom. 1. cherry sprigs on the top of both feet. 2. A tribal piece going from my ankle to my hip. 3. Comedy/ Tragedy masks on the inside of the ankle on the other leg. 4. Four large butterflies on the outside calf of that leg. 5. A row of multi coloured 1" stars around my right wrist. 6. A row of music notes around my left wrist. 7. Flaming eight ball and starter flags going down the back of my left arm from elbow to wrist. 8. Four aces and dice and music notes going down the back of my right arm from wrist to elbow. 9. A tribal arm band around my left arm. 10. A hard to describe symbol on the top of left arm. 11. A celtic arm band on my right arm. 12. A r+J symbol in a heart with dagger, roses etc. on the top of right arm. 13. A band (porno for pyros) symbol on the back of my neck. 14. A nautical star on the side of my neck. 15. A heart and name on my right breast. 16. Two swallows on either side of my chest with my daughters name (ruby) and birthdate in scrolls. 17. A black panther on my right shoulder blade. 18. A small black star on my hand.

Well, that must have been really boring for some of you, and the rest of you are probably thinking " Is this woman a total lunatic"? I found it interesting, though.

I also own a body piercing studio, in Perth, Western Australia.

My starting weight was 335pounds, I had the surgery on the 11th Feb, and have lost 7kgs - don't know what that is in pounds.

I'll keep all of you who are interested up to date on how the artwork holds up.

Take care,

Rachel.

I accedently stabbed myself with a pencil once... I don't have a tattoo because I get bored easily. Designs and symbols I loved 10 years ago is not what I love 10 years before that, and I expect that what I love now I will have out grown by then. I figure I'll get one when I'm 80, that way I'll only have about 20 years to get bored with it.

Hi Jamie,

Me again. I just realise that I've invited myself along on your weekend - how embarrassing - just as well I'm in Perth, Western Australia, eh?

Hi Totie,

Yes, that's a relevant point for alot of people - growing out of their tatts.

I look at mine like a diary, it reminds me of particular times in my life.

Take care,

Rachel.

I got a tattoo on my arm like an arm band-a friends daughter drew the design for me and I love it, just got it this past October. My reward when I get to my goal is another tattoo.

I've been wanting to get a tatoo, some of them can be so sexy, but I guess I'm just too conservative. Maybe when I get to my goal weight I'll just get a little wild and get a tatoo on my hip. Yeah, that's what I'm going to do. Does it hurt?

Me and my girls, well 2 of my girls and I have guardian angels on our

shoulders. My middle girl was pregnant with my grandaughter when

we had them done. She will get hers someday.

I love it, don't see any changes after 67 pounds.

Thanks Jamie, You never know - U.S.A is on my list of things to do, I might have you hobbling down to the local parlour with me when I'm 70.

In answer to your question, Estela, I suggest you think about the end product - and GO FOR IT, GIRL!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
