Hi I'm considering lap band surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi, my name is Cindy. I am just beginning my journey into this. I went to see my doctor for my annual visit and when I got off the scale I cried. I have never in my life wieghed this much.

My doctor has talked to me in the past about different procedures that could help me lose wieght but we never really talked in detail about them. This visit thou was spent talking about the lap band and how it worked.

I live in WI and would have to go to Madison to have it done.

My dh doesn't want me to have it done. He seems to think that I can just stop eating so much. His cousins wife had gastric bypass done a few years ago and she is having all kinds of problems. Most of the problems she is having are for the attention. She craves being in the spot light. Dh has stated that he is worried that I will have all the problems that Tracey is having and he really doesn't want me to be like Tracey.

Well that was probably more information then you needed. I am looking forward to researching and learning more about the lap band.

Hey Cindy,

I am new to all this also. I hear the pain and fear in your words. Remember everyone is different, just because your husband's cousin's wife reacts a certain way doesn't mean you will. I think we all have choices in our lives, and if you choose for this to be positive and work with the progam it can be. I have been reading the posting here for couple of weeks, these folks are a fountain of knowledge. So contine your research, do whatever is best for you. I wish you the best luck.

Welcome Cindy, I too am new to the forum and seeking the lapband. Also my wife is not in favor of the surgery because of possible risks involved with any surgery, but I told her I'm going to have much greater risks if I don't have the surgery. Good luck in your journey. JohnC

My lapband was july 18,2007 and it's the best thing I ever did for myself. My starting weight was 273 I am now 205. On labor day a guy ran a stop sign and t boned me on the drivers side and I am now on steroids for my back so I haven't lost any,but i haven't gained either. I haven't had a fill since before the accident, but i'm scheduled for one the 1st part of march. Then I'll be back on track.

I haven't had a bit of trouble. I have energy out the gazoo and I'm back to enjoying life. I've gone from size 24 and they were tight and I'm now size 16. My goal was to be under 200 by christmas, but my accident side tracked me.

This procedure was a blessing for me and I know it will be for you too.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me thru this sight or email gail.m@insightbb.com

Hi Cindy!

I am also looking into having the Lap Band surgery done. I am attending a seminar on Feb 20 with Dr. Robert and Garth Davis. I have been researching the lap band for about a year now and have been on this forum reading post. Good Luck on your journey!

Hi and welcome.

Obesity isn't for everyone. Weird statement, huh?

WLS (weight loss surgery) isn't for everyone.

But if you are having issues with your weight and it's affecting you...you are a candidate for WLS if your bmi is high.

Only you can decide if this is right for you...not your spouse, mom, sister, children, etc. Not even your doctor. This has to come from you.

Do the research about weight loss.

If dieting and exercise aren't working, consider WLS.

Look at the different types and procedures. My twin had RnY where the stomach was cut and attached to the intestines bypassing most of the stomach and small intestines. She is fine...size 6. She still has to watch what she eats.

I had lapband. I, too am a size 6. And I still have to watch what I eat...but moreso than she. She eats way more than I do w/o gaining a pound. I eat a normal meal and gain a pound.

So there are differences even on maintenance.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Hi Cindy, I also have just request the LBS. I had thought about it for a long time but for the gastric bypass. I did not like the idea of GB, so when I heard of the LBS, I started debating about the LBS. When I couldn't stand to see myself in the reflection of the Wal-mart doors without getting depressed, I made up my mind to make an early appointment with my doctor and asked her for a referral to Dr. Wolff in Portland, Maine. She was so good about her questions and explanations about the surgery. I told her that I had thought about it for a long time. Finally she agreed to make the appointment for me. I haven't heard from the doctor yet, but I am glad for this site. I know I know this was long Ha Ha but just wanted to talk. Good Luck everyone!!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
