Just banded 1/17 & eating too much

Recommended Posts

Hey there,

Don't feel down... the doctor told me that everyone cheats once in awhile, we can't be perfect. He said you will probably feel sick and then you will not want to cheat again. I'm fighting the hunger pains now too... it's hard, but we will do it. My nurse told me it's a learning process, sometimes it takes even a few fills until we are adjusted the right way and don't feel hungry all of the time. She said we can gain weight when we are waiting for our first fill, but to always think that you can make the band slip if we don't watch it. I try to focuss on that when I want to eat.

Take care, don't give up!!

Jeni, be good to yourself. Restriction will take some time to get there. Just try to stick to either 800-1k calories a day, or 1 cup per meal. Good luck.

I've seen several listing about what to eat to keep Protein up during this "hell" time, 2-5 weeks post op. But I'm wondering....I will take a small portion of whatever I make for the fam and puree it, is that wrong? Like the other day I pureed about a 3 inch section of lasanga and put about a 1/4 cup more of sauce in it and thinned it out a bit more with Water. It was smooth and loose, but it had ground beef, mushrooms, olives, onions, Pasta, and ricotta. Is anyone else doing anything like that, or am I totally in the wrong? My doc said that if you can put it through a sieve and it can fit through a straw, you can eat it, and that's pretty much what I do. It is soooo much more appetizing than just plain creamed Soups. I also have purred cottage cheese, put pureed sauce and cheese and bake that, ummmm

curious is anyone thinks that I'm doing an injustice to my band, or not letting myself heal properly. Because that is the most important thing.

The only thing I will ask is if you realize that your new pouch needs time to heal? Digestive enzymes are very hard on it, and you risk band slippage.

It's very obvious that you weren't mentally ready for this surgery and the key word in these few weeks is "discipline".

How can somebody be 'mentally ready' for this procedure? If one was 'mentally ready', and had 'discipline' they wouldn't be obese in the first place.

Nobody can anticipate the feelings of deprivation and hunger post-op before they achieve a successful fill. Even after a fill, it is still a huge issue to tackle being overcome with cravings yet not having the stomach capacity to eat it all.

Jen, hang in there. We're going through the same boat, and we can make it through this!

its a learning process ..my dr. says its ok to take a sip or two at the beginning while eating beacuse it is a hard thing to break..he says to never gulp or drink more than a few sips... and for 2 wafers, hey we are not perfect..just learn for next time.. i have had a few, slips but im learning and will try for the most part to not sabotage myself..we are striving to gt better not perfection since no one is perfect cause if we were we wouldnt have had needed weight lose surgery in the first place...keep ur head up high and keep smiling sweetie.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
