Ok, so i have a treadmill, but i really do not use it YET (the operative word). I looked at the ellipticals the other day in the store and i even got on one and used it for about a minute.

in just that minute i felt it in more of my leg muscles than i would have imagined feeling on the treadmill. (one of the elliptical's there were other's that weren't too good).

so, this is my questions, which do you think is better and why?

my treadmill is a very nice $700 one, but the elliptical i'm looking at only costs $189 and if i buy it, i'm selling my treadmill (i only have room for one good piece of exercise equipment..and really my treadmill is too big).

so please vote, and let me know.

if your elliptical has the arm bars....i would say the elliptical. It would work both your arms and legs and heart. The treadmill only works the legs and heart...

I love my ellipticall and think its a much better workout. We paid over $1,000 for ours (got the kind you use at the gym) and it's been the BEST investment ever.

I like both, but if I had to pick one it would be the elliptical. The elliptical seems to work all of my problem areas :w00t:allot better than the treadmill. I also own a treadmill I bout it about five years ago and I think I have used it twenty times if that. And now when I want to use it,it is acting up and I said forget it. Incline setting kicks butt. :)

I want to get one...but I just dont have any space for it. I think that as soon as I ass the covered back deck on I might be able to get one for out there but I dont know how it will work out.

I am going to rent a Wii for a month to see if I will use it enough to actualy buy it.

I'm an elliptical girl, myself. I have a love-hate relationship with that machine. I just feel like I get a better, more intense workout from the elliptical, plus it's easier on my body. My shins hurt when doing the treadmill for any length of time, but I don't have any problems with the elliptical. But there is definitely a huge difference between most home models and the gym models. I'm spoiled now with the one at the gym, and never use the one I have at home. But that's just my two cents, for what it's worth.

I want to get one at home...but I have no place to put it lol

No place at all in my tiny house.

I prefer the elliptical because it does'nt bother my knee. If you have good balance I would suggest swinging your arms as if you are running. I think that action burns more calories than holding on to the moving handles. I do have short arms so I find holding onto the handles difficult.

I would go with the Elliptical because it is much better on the joints...I've got bad knees and can't do too much on the treadmill before they start hurting; whereas I can get on the elliptical and go for an hour or more and never feel the stress on my knees...

The big but here is that If you plan to buy an Elliptical, you definitely want to spend more that just a few hundred bucks. To get a good Elliptical, that will hold up to steady use, you're gonna pay some good money...I bought mine a few years back and i believe I paid $900 for it. But I had to buy the heavy duty one because of my size. I got a cheaper one prior to that and it was broken within about 6 months...couldn't hold up to the weight...

I feel you need to consider what your goals are. I use the ellipitical, treadmill, and the bike when I go to the gym. I weigh 310lbs now. I use the treadmill to walk because I eventually I want to start to run. I use the elliptical now because it burns more calories than the treadmill for me, and I'm bottom heavy and I feel it working and reshaping my lower body. I go to the gym 3 to 4 times a week. I spend 45 mins on both the ellitpical and the treadmill.

If I have to choose, I would say my elliptical, but you need a good gym-quality one. I walk at least two miles a day, and the elliptical works my arms and heart.

Hey, I like the idea of renting a Wii. Have to find out where I can do that.

When I was working out at the gym, I loved the elliptical much more than the treadmill. I bought an ellipitical from Sears for $500 and it was not the same. It wobbled everywhere and just didn't feel as good. My sister has one that she paid $2500 for and it IS gym quality and it's awesome! Just be careful which one you choose cuz it makes a big difference!

I have both but use the treadmill more often. The Elliptical is a great workout but I don't have the endurance to use it for any length of time for a good cardio workout. Sometimes I start on the elliptical and when I can't do any more I'll switch to the treadmill.

I sold my elliptical over a week ago, so it's back to the treadmill for me.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
