Recommended Posts

To all the 23 of Jan bandsters,:)

How are you guys doing? How are you eating? Any problems? Please share with everyone. As for me, I AM EATING WELL,and not ungry at all. I sometimes get to where I am not hungry and forget to drink all the shakes i need because of workiing, and then when i get home, I eat small bites of food that i cook for my family.:Banane20:

I sometimes feel guilty because I don't do right but I do take my vitabrand Vitamins and i feel ok again...But i am able to eat anything...Is this bad?:)

Heyas, I'm doing well - down 12 lbs so far since surgery. I feel hungry not all the time but I do. I am on day 7 of 10 for full liquids in my post op diet and am looking forward to going to pureed food towards the end of this week which I will be on for 2 weeks I believe it was. I've been struggling with head hunger and not being able to just "eat what I want" or anything normal. Getting a bit tired of Soup, pudding and yogurt but eh, thems the breaks, it will be all worth it. Still struggling to drink enough Water but I'm working on it.

One embarrassing thing though - I haven't pooped yet (TMI I know), but perhaps since I'm only consuming liquid'ish type foods that is the reason. It's not that I'm "backed up" because I don't even feel like I need to go.

Steri-strips are all off and incision sites are healing quite well, I'm pretty sure that besides possibly my port spot the others will be almost unnoticable.

I am looking forward to pureed food like you wouldn't believe and then to be able to just .. eat normally OMG HEAVEN.

 Hope everyone is doing well. *BIG HUGS ALL AROUND*

Thanks for posting Ang...You are doing very well! Congratulations..I just this weekend took off my steri-strips, they were causing a rash from the itching around the healing area for me. I was itching something awful. I am so glad you are doing well and I have heard from someone who had the surgery on the same date I did.

Oh don't worry about saying to much information, nothing is too much on this site..LOl..We all talk about anything here and it's ok. I don't think it's awkward though, because i didn't have one until I had some mushie mashed potatoes...

Keep in touch...

p.s. Delta British Columbia?? Your location? How exciting!

Let's keep in touch...

Ugh I know what you mean about those strips being itchy - the same reason I peeled mine off (although my doc gave me the okay at my follow up appointment) and things felt much better after that!

I'm so jealous you get to eat mushies already - I have to wait until Thursday :)

I had my surgery in Delta British Columbia where my surgeon is - I live a couple hours from there in the Fraser Valley area. :wink2:

my steri-strips caused a horrible rash... had to get a steriod shot today and start a round of steriod pills.... side effect is weight gain - oh no! but i'll do anything to stop the itching! i thought about posting pics, but it was so disgusting. After reading all the posts, it sounds like a reaction is not that abnormal.

Keep up the good work... i keep thinking what fun this fall will be!

Hello Guys,

I was banded on 1/23/08 in Norwalk Hospital by Dr. Craig Floch (cutie). I had no post-op pain and my first post op apt was yesterday. I've been given the ok to get back into the gym and I'm excited about that. I start the mushies on Wed and I'm scheduled for my first fill on 2/25/08. I was on Optifast starting on 1/9/08 and so far I've lost 28 lbs. Good luck everyone.

I just had my first visit after surgery with my primary care doctor. He's thrilled about my weight loss so far (and I don't have to wait until the 6th to have an official weigh in). We adjusted my medications and feel at the goals I set for myself, my next visit to him should have me off of all but one medication (can't do much about the under active thyroid....it's one of those hereditary things). As March 6th gets closer, I'm getting more nervous about my first fill. Other than that, I'm feeling great. I'm even handling the stress of finals and final projects coming up in the next two weeks without wanting to binge eat.

That's great - good luck with your first fill (it's a couple days before mine, let me know how it goes) and good luck with all your finals and projects!

Hi Guys,

I had my first fill yesterday and I must report I didn't feel a thing. The PA at the Norwalk office (Rebecca - so nice) did the fill, she had a little trouble getting in, besides the internal clicking noise...I felt nothing. I had to take a sip of Water before I left and that was fine also. I'm was on full liquids yesterday and noticed I do have to take my time drinking now. Soft foods today, I had an cheese omelet at 9am and it's now 12:34 and I'm still full. My weight did go down 2 pounds since 2/22 but that had nothing to do with the fill. I go in again on 3/10 for a follow up visit.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
