possible leak around port

Recommended Posts

Went for my fill on Thursday, and when she pulled out the fill from last time she only was able to get out 1cc and I had 2 put in. she refilled me with a total of 3 cc and stated that in 6 wks she would check it and if she don't get 3 out they may have to consider replacing the port.

She said something about absorption, what do any of you all know about this?

Well, we know it happens and is usually nothing to worry about. There have been some posts in the past which you could do a search on concerning the fact that if the surgeon does not purge the port tubing the first time, this will happen. I think it's pretty common, really. It happened to me the first time, but I haven't had any problems since. Good luck.

What kind of band do you have? I know when I went for my first fill, the doc told me that at least .2cc to .5cc is in the tubing leading up to the band. For the most part the liquid should not be absorbed but it isn't impossible either. It can happen. If you are at 3cc in a 4cc band then please do be careful cause you might be overfilled. Just take it easy till your next appt. Always follow your doctors recommendations or call if you feel uncomfortable in anyway.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
