Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

I think I gained weight 7 days post-op! Can this really happen?

I think its important not to obsess. The weight will come off - throw away the scales (or at least hide them).

I only understand metrics.. but here is the deal with fluids .... FACT ... 1 litre of Water weighs 1 kgs. To translate to measurements understood in america.. 4 cups of Water = 2.2 lbs. Other fluids may weigh more than water.

3600 calories needs to be used to lose 1 pound.

A lot of initial weight loss is glycogen stores leaving your liver - if you don't have a large store, you won't have that inital weight loss.

I've been on the scale every day, too.

But, you know what, it's really silly.

We've done this too much in our lives--chased numbers--and not really made the lifestyle CHANGES necessary to maintain a healthy size.

We know we aren't doing anything "wrong," so it doesn't matter what the scale says now. It could be water-yes. It could be SHOCK. Our body may be trying to maintain itself to stay alive--it doesn't "know" what we have chosen to do, does it! It could be related to the surgery itself, as some of you've said.

It doesnt matter.

It doesnt matter.

It doesn't matter.

We need to learn to look ahead and trust that by making the right decisions, following the guidelines, learning to eat differently...that the path ahead will have both reinforcements and challenges.

But we'll get there if we use this miraculous tool right--to change some of the things we couldn't before. It will make us slow down our eating. It will keep us from overeating.

We have to choose what foods to put into our bodies, to have our fills, to exercise, etc.

Best!

It's funny that many of us have WAITED a long time to really take on our obesity, but we don't want to wait for other things, like the numbers on the scale to drop.

I want to understand this-- how to patiently defer gratification for the in my best interest.

Something to ponder...

best!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
