I haven't had my surgery yet. But I have my diet pre/post and my requires 2 weeks of liquid, then 2 wks of mushy food. Are you sure you are suppose to still be on strictly liquids on the third week. Maybe you should call your doc and say I was just wondering when I can start eatting mushy.

I did start the pureed, but sometimes I just want to put anything in my mouth that is crunchy! I eat Breakfast, and a slimfast for lunch with a Soup in between because I scared to eat what I want.

You should call the doctor ASAP. They will tell you what to do. If you are eating because you are hungry, they may progress you to mushy/pureed, and maybe give you a fill, but not telling the doctor is doing a disservice to both of you. YOu might do some damage, and he won't be able to properly treat/diagnose you.

Mellizo, you're supposed to be healing, which is the reason for the various stages, take control girl, don't take a chance on damaging this new tool before it has a chance to work for you.

Protein, Protein, protein, it does help. We've all been there.

Hugs

Hi everyone!

I had my band placed on 1/31/08 and I am hungry as well. I talked to the dietician yesterday and her suggestion was to add Fiber into the shakes using flax meal (ground up flax seeds) and small amount of berries (blueberries, blackberries, raspberries). I made a shake with the vanilla SF CIB and flax and about 1/2 cup of mixed berries, about a 1/4 cup soymilk, 1/4 cup skim milk and 1 Weight watchers berry yogurt and it was actually really good and I didn't get hungry for about 3 hrs. It made about 3 servings. Also, I pureed 1 can of Healthy request chicken noodle Soup in the blender along with 2 scoops of unjury (protein pwd) and 2 tablespoons of flax and had that for dinner last night and didn't get hungry for about 3 hrs as well (I counted that as 4 servings and only ate 1/4 of the can). It tasted good too! I am trying really hard to follow their guidelines exactly because I want this to work. The dietician for my practice stated that I should continue full liquid for 7-10 days post-surgery. My understanding is that if solid food is introduced too soon, the placement of the band may change and that may lead to reduced weight loss later. I don't know how true this is because there is such variability between surgeons and their recommendations. Lots of people have eaten solids early without any apparent problem. I think the advice to call your surgeon's office was right. Let them know so they can help you. Hope my suggestions help! I thought I was the only hungry one! :)

I started to eat solids way before I was supposed to. I confessed to my doctor and his reaction was wanting to know if I was able to tolerate it without vomiting. He told me that it is actually vomiting that will move or slip the band. Again, they all have a different opinion so who knows.

thank you all for your support and answers. I have been on solids and have had two fills. This last one, was last week and I stuck to me liquids. But it seems that everytime I try to eat something it gets stuck. I am going to call my doctor today to see if this is normal. I also have a lot of gas when I eat. Its a struggle between gas coming up and food going down. Any suggestions?

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
