6 days post op and not wanting to eat or drink.

Recommended Posts

Today I am 6 days post op. I am trying to "eat" what I am allowed and drink however I am having a hard time.

Everything is an issue to get it down. Not that it hurts or anything like that. I DON'T want anything. Not even Soups, water, protein drinks, the new G2 gatorade,sf puddings...nothing. When I do try to eat or drink I get very little down before I feels like if I go on things will come back up.

Does anyone have any advice on this?

Tigger, I'm still feeling the same way. Just the thought of swallowing anything makes me gag. I thought this was going to be easy but I just feel so sick. Some said it might be dehydration so I'm trying to sip Propel, but don't even want that. I just want this to pass. I was banded Thursday the 24th.

I was also banded on the twenty fourth. I just don't feel hungry or thirsty. I have to constantly remind myself to sip the Water that is just inches from me. I go back to work tomorrow and am worried that I won't dring anything since I will no longer be a couch potatoe.

My first back to work was Monday. It was a little rough sitting up for such a long period of time. Today isn't as bad. I don't really have pain...just uncomfortable.

Thanks for responding, I wanted to make sure it just wasn't me going thru this.

You are definitely not alone. I can't imagine going back to work yet, but I have a 45-minute commute each way. Yesterday I tried backing my car out of the garage and things started swimming. I still feel very light-headed and nauseous today. I don't feel any hunger either, and everything I drink seems to go right through me. UGH! Tell me again why we did this to ourselves??? <weak smile>

:rolleyes2: For the end result.

They say nothing worth while is NEVER EVER easy............. they are RIGHT on that one.

Illion,

you seem to be worse off then me. Other than the bloating and not eating drinking I am just a little sore.

But keep your head up we will get thru this together!

Alfie, I am with you. I was banded 1-24 and just yesterday I began to think the food commercials on TV were looking pretty good. Today I experienced my "new " stomach growling, but I have been on liquids for 3 weeks also. I am just counting down to day 7 when I can start blended food. But getting fluids down is not a problem for me. I have had some major gas attacks that scared me to death, but for the most part, it has been smooth sailing.

Hi Kel, I know, the foods look so good. I keep wanting tuna salad of all things and eggs. I think on Thursday he is going to start me on mushy stuff. I was wondering if the band size made a diff. I have a 14cc Inamed so maybe I didn't get too much swelling.

I have also been having lots of weird sounds coming from within and also have been burping up a storm.

Shorty , I felt the same way you did for about 2 weeks post op , ( was banded in July ) Take very small sips of liquids through out the day , as long as you are staying hydrated you will be ok . But make sure you are drinking . Get a timer and set it for every 15 mintues and take small sips every 15 mintues . I for one did not feel like ANYTHING but Water. So maybe start with that . Just STAY HYDRATED.

HTH

I have been going through the same thing. I was banded on the 22nd. I still only want Water. I tried some skim milk yesterday, but I won't be doing that again for awhile. I have been feeling a little better day by day, but I don't want anything but Water. I know in my heart this is all worth it. I have lost 22 lbs already! That makes it worth it. We'll get through this.

Mindy I like your name ( LOL )

It was not until about week3 that i felt like something to "eat' and in fact when i did i had a bit of a mental break down LOL I could have things like creamy Soups ect and my husband was trying to fix me something to eat but NOTHING tasted right . I was SO looking forward to cream of potaote Soup and it tasted like crap ! I tried Jello, tasted like sugar. My taste buds had changed so much NOTHING tasted right and I pretty much LOST IT !

My husband made the mistake of telling me " well honey you DID this to yourself " OHHH He ran like hell the way i looked at him " what he meant was " I thought you knew what to expect"

Anyway , if you all you want is water then drink water for now , try something every day , things you normally would not think you might want , your taste buds change so much . Try the seasoning packets from Romaine noodles . Tortialla Soup with out the stuff in it .

Egg drop soup . I lost 12 lbs the first WEEK !

Good luck

MINDY !!

Love

Mindy LOL

Thanks you guys! It really makes a difference to know that there are other people going thru what I am going thru.( or went thru the same thing.) I go tomorrow for my 1 week post op appt. I hope he will allow me to have more options when it comes to food. I get worried about losing my hair from lack of Protein. My boyfriend put a raw egg in my milk last night and mixed it in without me knowing it and I never tasted the egg! I guess I will get my Protein One way or another. LOL

I feel more like my old self this morning not so tired. My belly still feels sore on the inside but the outside looks GREAT!

I have not weighted myself in 3 days but as of 3 days ago I was 24 lbs down!

For right now do not worry about weight. the first 6 weeks after surgery is about recovery . it sounds like your doing well. Follow your docs advice and you will be fine. Are you allowed Protein Drinks yet ? If so those will make you feel A LOT better once you get to those .

Dont worry about loosing your hair either. are you taking flintstone Vitamins ?

That will help with Hair loss I never had any more hair loss than i normally have ( I have it due to PCOS ) But you will be fine.

Let us know how the doc goes

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
