REALLY?! (an ode to beer)

Recommended Posts

Is it true? No more beer for ever and ever?

I had my initial consult on Friday. "You'll just have to learn to like wine," my doc said with a chuckle.

Anyone a beer drinker like me? Are you banded and still drink it?

I can still drink beer. Not as much, and not quickly. If I drink it too fast, it gets foamy, and HURTS. If I drink it slowly, though, I do fine with it.

Just keep in mind the calories that you're drinking.

I LOVE beer. I'm an import queen. That has probably been the hardest thing for me so far. I have switched to a very occasional wine, but it's just not the same. I'm missing it less and less as time goes by though. I had to laugh.... A college aged bandster on this message board told me that when she has a party, she opens two bottles the day before and leaves them in the fridge to go flat. Then when everyone else is enjoying a beer, she can too, but limits it to two. YUCK. Nothing worse than flat beer. It sounded horrible to me, but I guess I can relate! I think I would have just served the beer to someone else, washed out the bottle and filled it up with Water. Then I'm on track and still no questions or explanations.

I can't do beer, and I do miss it. I've tried twice now(slow learner I guess) and both times a few sips caused me to feel really uncomfortable.

But, overall I'll trade beer for the jeans I'm wearing today fitting!

I used to always drink beer and have found that I can't anymore... I just feel too full and sick. My favorite now is Twisted Tea, it's soooo good. Also I will get a mixed drink with lots of ice so it goes flat. I drink Red Bull and Vodka a lot now, just make sure to drink the sugar free kind so it's only ten calories instead of a hundred and ten!

my dietician said no carbonation for at least two weeks after surgery and no alcohol for a whole 6 months...

I too am an import girl. Most imports have about 200 calories per bottle but I have tried amstel light and it has only 90

its not my favorite but Its still pretty good. Not banded yet but I sure hope I can still drink beer after

I LOVE beer....and I'm mourning a bit.....but the truth is, it's all about compromises and trades....

I'll trade being able to go up the stairs without being winded for a bud light.

I'll trade not having to lay down on the bed to zip up my pants for a corona.

I'll trade a waistline for a polygamy porter.

I'll trade a...................well, I'm not sure what I'll trade for microbrews, because I really really like them.....BUT you get my point!

Why even go through the pain and agony of having this surgery if we don't change the bad habits that made us fat in the first place?

I can manage some soda now without issue---do it on occasion. But just a drink or 2 of beer, has me burping ALL night. I cannot do it! I have drank other things, it is not the alcohol, it is the serious carbonation in the beer. I mean if you fill a cup with soda pop, it is usually over ice, which helps eliminate some carbonation, but the head on it disappears quickly, you can pour a beer, and it will sit with the head on it for a loooong time, and you see the bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass forever!

I do mixed drinks---have to skip the beer....which just does not seem right at the lake without beer! But even the bottled things like hard lemonade----way to carbonated.

Like has been said though, I much prefer the 100+ pounds gone than the taste of that beer anyway!

I was a big beer drinker before surgery. I was able to drink it occassionally until my 3rd fill and then it really hurt. It has been almost 4 weeks since that fill and I had one this weekend and it went down ok. I drink wine now and it isn't the same but I am adjusting. I also drink a Diet Coke occassionally but I put it over ice and let it sit awhile before I drink it. I do miss my beer. :)

I'm not banded yet so I haven't tried this but I picked up a tip on another lap band board. If you put a single green olive in to your beer it will go flat without the stale taste and be easier to drink, no foam. I'm a mixed drink girl myself so I'm thinking after banding it might just be a better idea for myself not to drink....or drink it on the rocks, lol.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
