How to add protein powder to jello?

Recommended Posts

Just had surgery yesterday, so I am on the "liquid phase." Not many choices and I need to add Protein Powder to what I eat. How do you add Protein powder to Jello? I sprinkled some vanilla flavored GNC whey on it. :huh2:It was on odd texture, jello with dry powder. The taste wasn't too bad. Just looking for some suggestions on this beginning phase. I am not too hungry yet. Still recovering (quite well, actually) from surgery. In fact, I feel so well, it's difficult to realize I am VERY limited in my food choices! I feel like I could eat whatever I wanted! I am being good and following the doctor's orders. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks. Karen

I just added the Protein powder to the Jello before I set it in the refrigerator to set up. Be sure to stir it really well. It may change jello to a sort of creamy color, but it shouldn't affect the consistency. Well, allow me to back-track here and say, I suppose, that it depends on the type of protein powder you have.(?) Mine can be used in just about anything--liquids, baking...I'm still in the pre-op stage, but this may halep you some.

I truly laughed when I envisioned you putting dry Protein powder on your jello---oooououououououo! :D

The Protein would be added to the cold Water when you are MAKING the Jello from scratch! However, I'm not a Jello person--so I make sugar free fat free jello instant pudding: Add 2 scoops unflavored whey protein isolate to 2 cups cold skim milk and mix. Add a small 3 oz. package of any flavor jello instant pudding (make sure it says sugar free/fat free), whip it up, and put it in small 1/2 cup containers in the frig. (Makes about four)

I've read in these threads where people also put the unflavored protein in mashed potatoes, oatmeal, etc. but I've only ventured into the pudding. Good luck in your journey!

Thank you for the jello/pudding recipe. You can tell I am a newbee. I have learned more from this web site than I have from my doctors/nutritionists! Karen H p.s. I am glad to provide a chuckle!

Today when I was researching where to get my next supply of unflavored whey Protein isolate (powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury is just too darn expensive!), I found this website that had a ton of recipes!

BiProUSA.com - Whey Protein isolates, hydrolyzed whey Proteins, recipes and more and click on recipes in the Menu Bar just under the header on the page. (If you come to a home page, just click on "Recipe Contest Update" and then Recipes).

I'm still relatively new at this too, and the only way I've learned anything is through reading on the Internet, Karen. :tt1:

Thanks I've been looking everywhere for a more simple way to make the sugar free jello pudding pops. I actually purchased the GENEPRO? really wasn't sure which one to use, this is what GNC recommend. I have a quick question please. Can I use almond milk in place of the skim milk? I have watched so many different youtube videos that I think I heard somewhere that the almond milk will not work? Thanks so much in advance for you help.

No, if you use almond milk, the pudding won’t set.

As a tip, it works great to mix instant pudding in a shaker container. (That you mix shakes in) it’s extra easy to portion out into smaller containers.

Thanks so very much for the info. I knew I thought I'd heard that about the almond milk, but wasn't sure. I so appreciate the feedback,

Also, how are you feeling? I hope all is going smooth for you. I am suppose to call first thing Monday morning to get my surgery date. I'm so excited and nervous at the same time.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
