Anyone here rrom Maine???

Recommended Posts

Anyone here from Maine? My surgeon is Dr. McKee in Augusta. Very nice bedside manner. My appointment was mainly focused on my questions, the port location, and the proceedure itself. I am very happy where I am going!

I'd like to hear from anyone else in Maine on this site!!

Hi Kerri, I'm glad I'm not the sole Mainiac here! I have Dr McKee. I wasn't at the group this past Thursday, but I went on 1/10/08 - Thursday. How is the scheduling for you going? It seems like such a long wait between psyc eval and dietician appts! Have you been able to make these appts yet? Maybe we'll run into eachother in the waiting room.

Good luck with your adventure! We'll have to keep in contact, as it seems we are the only ones from "up North" around! Maybe the mention of this site at your meeting will spark some interest with fellow Mainers!

Later- Sarah

The appointments do seem to take forever. After my first nutrition appt, (I had Krista) my next one was scheduled 6 weeks from that, then from my second appt. my next was 4 weeks, which was last Friday:)! My psych took about a month to get in which originally was in November but, due to a family illness, I had to cancel and reschedule for January..ugghh.. That appt was January 5, but the Bariatric Center still hasn't gotten the results (although the Doc said I was all set as far as he was concerned:) yay!! I am now waiting on them to send my case to "Team", then (hopefully) insurance approval, then Nate x2, then final consult.. Wheww.. lol

I attended the seminar in July, so I have surely been on the slow path! Which seminar did you go to, and which nutritionist did you have?

Best of luck to you, and it would be great to keep in touch!

:)Kerri

p.s. sorry for rambling lol I can't tell you how psyched I am to find someone that's going through Maine General, I've been waiting since September!!:cursing:

Hi Kerri! I went to my informational seminar at The Senator on 1/10/08. My first consult with Dr McKee was this past Friday, 1/25/08. They set up my first nutrition appointment for this coming Tuesday 1/29/08 (they had just had a cancellation call when I was in the exam room with Dr.). I am going to go to the support goup meeting (the first one to count towards the 3 I need to attend) tomorrow, Monday 1/28/08. My psyc eval is 3/14. It seems like a long time away, but when I see youve been at this since 7/2007, It makes me feel like I'm speeding along! I need 1or 2 more nutrition appts, 2 more seminars, psyc eval, and insurance approval, then Team approvall, pre op and banding...

I, too am thrilled that someone else is going through Me General! Everyone on this site seems to be from Texas or Wyoming, for some reason! Finally a local to chat with!

take care, talk to you later!

Sarah

wow, it does seem that you are moving right along! I was going to try to get to the support group tonight, but I don't think I'll be able to get the time off .. Just one of the many set backs for me.. grr.. Anyhoo.. enough complaining lol.. Who are you going through for your psych? I went to HPMaine in Waterville.. They have a call list in case someone cancels.. Then they would call you.. That's what I did, they called me twice, but I couldn't get there both times:(

Hello: I am also from Maine. I am just in the beginning stages and have my first appt coming up with Dr. Loggins at CMMC. It's nice to see others from my area are working on this process too!

Welcome, Kelly! Maybe we can liven up this Maine thread, afterall! Where are you from? Where in the process are you? We may be in the same boat as far as time goes. CMMC has different guidelines then Me General, I believe. What has your experience been like so far?

Welcome, can't wait to hear more!

Kerri, I will have to try the cancellation list! My only problem is I am 45 minutes from Augusta, so any appt I need to schedule on my day off, when I get one! I 'll give it a try, though! Thanks for the suggeston.

Did you get to the support group tonight? It was about support, family, work, etc.. It was a very crowded room! I meet with the dietician tomorrow, so we will see how that goes!

Good luck, talk later-

Sarah

Sarah,

I am from Lisbon Falls. I have just gotten started, I have my first visit to the surgeon on 2/15/08. I am really anxious to find out if I can do this. I actually work at CMMC so it is of course my program of choice. I have met Dr. Loggins once at a meeting and really liked him and have heard from others they liked him too. Where are you from?

Kerri, You were right. The nutrition appointment was actually kind of fun, and informative! I met with Jackie. The support group was the most comfortable I have ever felt in a group setting. Knowing that I can walk into the room, and know that nobody was going to judge me because of my weight, because we are all in the same boat! I have my next appt w/ Jackie in 4 weeks. Started my dietary log this week..

So, how are things with you? I hope to be able to get to the next group meeting in Feb.

Talk to you later,

Sarah

Yes, Sarah, I totally agree about the support groups.. It is definitely nice to have a safe zone, and a group of people that understand you and your struggles!:tt1:

Congrats on getting your first nutrition appointment behind you, and your next set for 4 weeks out, that is awesome!

I am going to be at the next support group even if I have to call out sick! lol.. I just changed my work schedule to better suit my hectic life.. I just decided to go back to school in the Fall. I am nervous, but psyched, I've wanted to do this for years..

Anyhoo.. I've had a long day, and an even longer one ahead of me tomorrow...ugghh..

Take care,

Kerri:)

p.s. do you know how to put a ticker up on here?? I'm kind of lost..lol

Hi! I'm from Maine too! I actually chose to have my surgery in Dallas, TX though. I had surgery on 12-12-07. I have lost 35 lbs to date (including my "pre surgery" diet weight loss. I just returned from Dallas yesterday, as I had my first fill. This is my first post on this site.

Hope everyone is doing good!

Connie

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
