All This Free Time! What to do?!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm Charly from St. Louis, Missouri USA. I was banded on Dec. 10, 2007 and have lost 30lbs. I LOVE MY BAND!!! This is a great board. Thanks to whoever started this.

And since I'm already posting this, I thought I'd add something else, because I think it applies to our age group.

Okay, this may seem crazy for some of ya'll who have hectic lives, but I'm in the VERY SMALL percentage that has a LOT of free time--A LOT!! redface.gifredface.gifredface.gifredface.gif I praise God that he has blessed me with a wonderful Monday-Friday 9-5 job (no overtime required unless voluntary, and then I am paid time n' half). I have no kids (but, 2 dogs) and no hobbies. I come home and fix a homemade meal EVERY NIGHT and I still have 4-5 hours with nothing to do but watch TV. I wanted to explain myself before I go on. So, I'm starting to eat little things here and there because I'm so bored. I exercise during my lunch hour at the gym in my building because I like the way it makes me feel for the later part of my day. I've been applying for part time jobs to keep me busy and help out with bills. I think I'm going insane with all this free time! I just needed to "vent" about this. If anyone has any suggestions, please share!!

Hey Charly, congrats on your success thus far. I couldn't be happier about what Lapband has done for me both physically and mentally. Why don't you pick up a hobby? I've been reading a very good book that I borrowed from a friend that Khalia Ali wrote about her journey with Lapband. I really enjoy reading Lapband books especially from people who actually have been though it, not doctors. I'm sure a lot of people would kill to have too much time :rolleyes2:

I hope this helps and best of luck to you!

go for walks. recruit pals to walk with you. anything that gets you on your feet and moving your ass is a great way to fill the time.

I work full time, go to school full time and still find myself with extra hours in the day. I bought an elliptical and put it right in front of the tv so i can only watch if i am working out.

good luck and congrats on the 30

Hey! My surgeon, Dr. Fielding co-wrote that book! :biggrin2: He had the band himself years ago in Australia before it was FDA approved for the U.S. He did Khaliahs surgery and its so funny you mention it because I just got my surgery date yesterday and ordered that book online today!

Why don't you try picking up a hobby? Have you ever thought about taking a night class somewhere, like a hobby-type class, such as photography, a cooking class (not implying you can't already cook), or an art class?

I have dabbled with painting and some day I would love to take an art class. Cooking is the same, I love to cook and would love to learn more about it.

Or, you could just spend all your free time on here like me :rolleyes2:

Since you have 2 dogs, I'm assuming you are a dog person in general, so maybe look into volunteering at an animal shelter? I wish I had time to volunteer at one myself, but the one by me is only open when I'm already at work.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
