No weight loss, weight gain

Recommended Posts

I was banded in July 2005. I lost weight initially....from 213 to 175 but then started to gain again..(went to 182)..had fills and unfills and I think I know I am at the right tightness but I can seem to get below 182. I too, eat peanuts because they are satisfying and nutritious....but...I think that may be the problem..Your post gave me a wake up call...I believe that certain foods (like Peanuts) can be eaten in such quantity without affecting the band that I may be sabotaging my own efforts.

Lets try to cut out the peanuts and see what happens.

good luck!

I had begun to gain weight (there is nothing more disheartening that having to change your ticker upward!!) and began assessing what I was doing with my body.

What I discovered is that, like you two, I had found my old love, cashews!!! And they were so chewable and went down so easily, I was eating a large can within a few days. I had totally eliminated the yogurt, cottage cheese, canned chicken, and tuna that I do so well with in my diet. Nuts, although Protein, have SO MANY FATS!

Honestly, as soon as I got off the nuts and back onto the dairy Proteins and canned chicken and tuna, I began to lose again!

It would be better for you to do at least one Protein shake a day (make it from powder, not that canned garbage) and get your 20-30 grams of Protein in that way, rather than the Proteins from nuts.

I only wish you the very best...

Thanks for the info about the nuts. I will stop now that I know you have had success when you gave up the cashews.

Really, Thanks a lot...I needed that!

If you can't eat meat, you are too tight. The band is designed to work by eating solid Protein, like chicken. Peanuts are full of fat, and not a good Protein choice. You should consider getting a slight unfill so you can follow the bandster rules which is protein first and veggies next.

Please join us in the slow losers thread. We are all very supportive.

Hi, Disappointed. I'm sorry you are, disappointed!

I really think, like the others, that you are TOO restricted.

I'm not very informed on thyroid issues. BUT, I do know before and after being diagnosed with diabetes, if I dieted too restrictively, I not only would not lose, I would often gain!

I actually gained over 80 lbs while DIETING!!

Seriously examine not just WHAT you eat, but HOW you eat. The lap band SHOULD be working, but you have to make it work.

God bless!

Hi disappointed..

I am new here, and considering lap band. I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis and Diabetes 2 with insulin resistance... am wondering if these 2 conditions make lapband results poorer? Do you take meds for diabetes or hypothyroid? I really want this to work, but I'm like you... if you lined up 100 people, and had to find 3 people where it didn't work, I'd be standing next to you! Keep us posted!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
