Finally home and banded!

Hi everyone... I am back in AZ finally.

Dr. K is awesome. I was so impressed with him. So talented with an excellent bedside manner to boot! I am so fortunate to have him as my surgeon.

My surgery was uneventful. I had a lot of nausea when I woke up. They maxed me out on the nausea meds and told me I had to eat Jello to get my blood sugar up. Jello just made me feel like vomiting. I was pretty miserable for the first hour or two after I woke up. I eventually got over the nausea and didn't have any issues with vomiting. Thankfully!

My port incision bled pretty heavily after a few hours of being home. I think I tried to do to much by myself. I got up out of the chair without help so I wouldn't bother anyone and I think that strained my incision too much. The front of my shirt was covered in blood and it took about 3 changes of gauze before it stopped bleeding through.

Dr K was great and called me right back. Had me come into the office the next morning and he cleaned it up and put a new clear patch over it. Everything looks good now. I just hope I didn't open myself up to infection. *cossing fingers*

My pain has been very good! I really am just more uncomfortable than anything. Gas pain in the shoulder sucked ass for about 2 days, but that is pretty much a memory now. My throat was sore and annoyed me a bunch too. Also now just a memory.

I thought I would feel worse than I do. Very pleased that I am able to walk around and move around pretty easily. I even cooked dinner for my in-laws the night after my surgery! :)

I am pretty tired right now. Been sleeping a lot the past 2 days. Lack of food I am sure is the reason. I am so sick of broth, juice and Water. Hubby picked up some V8 fusion for me today. I am hoping that will give me some more nutrition. I also had some strained out Soup earlier. Man that tasted sooo good. I can wait until I can move onto full liquids and add oatmeal into my daily intake!

So that is about it. Gas pain and throat pain were the worst part of it for me. Much much easier recovery so far than I thought it would be.

Congrats LA! I also had nausea, but it settled once the pain meds stopped. With the liquid stage - tough it out - I'm still on it, but sure that it is worth it somehow!!

Take care,

Jen

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
