Banded 1/17/08...I'm home

Recommended Posts

Hello January band group~

My name is Stacey....Tweenwaters....I was banded yesterday at 2:30 and left the clinic at 5:15. The surgery went really well....I'm actually glad that I did the 2 week pre-op diet (Optifast) as I think mentally it has helped me get into a little bit of a groove on my new life. It is such a relief to be on the other side of band land now! I've truly enjoyed reading all of your success & progress along the way. Although I was terrified (this was my first surgery)...I really found support reading your experiences. THANK YOU!!

~ pain and MAJOR bruise at port site insicion.

~ no gas pain (YET)...

~ doctor gave me lortab (liquid) for pain....every 6 hours

~ Nexum (purple capsule) for helping my tummy adjust on the inside....for the next several months as my diet will keep changing.

That's all for now.....good luck to everyone going today and the rest of the month. Keep up with your updates....I love hearing all the stories and sharing details of this journey.

Congratulations! I was banded on the 3rd and had to spend the night. I've done very well since then and have not been sick at all. I hope everything continues well for you.

My 3rd day was the worst but everyday after that is much better.

Out of the hospital in 3 hours. Wow!! Hope your recovery goes well.

since my insurance denied surgery, I am a self pay. I was at a surgery center, just north of DFW, Prestonwood Surgery Center, with the same wonderful surgeon, Dr. David Kim (based at North Hills Hospital) that I was planning to use had I not been denied by my insurance companny. This brand new surgery center just opened last month and is offering the lap-band surgery for the low cash payment of $9990. I was looking into going to Mexico and then my husband came across this group on the internet. It was only a 45 minute drive from our home too....which is a lot more convienient then having to fly to Mexico.

Other then feeling like I've been kicked in the stomach by a horse....I feel good. No gas pain yet....knock on wood.

thanks Kat....so glad to hear that all is going well for you. Did the gas pain start on the 3rd day? That is what I am most afraid of....but don't have any gas pain yet. My throat is also very dry from the breathing tube.....when does that go away?

thanks for your post.

Stacey

Wow Stacey - i'm impressed you were in and out so fast and are doing so well. I'm one day ahead of you and last night was when the gas really started for me. I'm doing lots of walking and lots of fluids per the doctor this morning. Overall, today has been much better!

I really didn't have a lot of gas pain. I really started feeling better the 4th day. Mostly b/c I could move around and the more you can walk the better you will feel. Just remember it will get better. Good Luck.

I was also banded on the 17th. Doing ok today...lots of gas pain, but feel like I can walk around more than yesterday. I was really sore all over yesterday, today seems to be more the port area. It felt great to take a shower this morning!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
