BC/BS Basic Federal

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to know others experience (if any) with Blue Cross Blue Shield Federal Basic?????

We have this insurance. I only have good things to say about them. I was approved very fast for my lap band and so was my daughter. :)

I have federal BCBS-standard and they cover it. As a matter of fact they don't actually give you "approval". They offer the coverage and its the doctors responsibility to make sure that you meet their requirements. They said that they don't do any prior approval for surgery. So that sounded good to me. I am having my surgery on 1/28. I went to a BCBS seminar at my husbands employer and the BCBS lady said the basic difference with basic vs standard is mostly the out of network amounts and the mail order pharmacy. So you should be fine. Good luck.

Ive read a few times on here that bcbs federal only pays for fills for a year. Gosh I hope thats not true. It could get rather expensive. does anyone know what the copay is for a fill? I know everyone is different but how often do you have to have a fill after the first year?

Hi, Teanne. Is your doctor a participating provider? I also have BCBS FEP Standard. The surgeon that I want to use is a non participating provider. With BCBS Standard the procedure will still be covered at 75% of billed charges and I will be responsible for the remaining 25% and the $300 deductible. If I go with a participating surgeon, BCBS will pay 90%. I really like this surgeon and his practice... so I think for peace of mind, I will go with him. I have my first appt. next Wed. I'm hoping I won't have to wait too long to get the surgery scheduled. Teanne, are you scheduled for surgery? May I ask where you live? I'm in Fairfax, VA. Thank you and good luck to all...

Hi, PTinUtha. I see we're both getting through the BCBS details. I didn't know about the fills only being covered for the first year. Darn!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
