Sounds like classic acid reflux. Some easy treatments include antiacids, sleeping propped up, not eating or drinking a few hours before bed, etc. But if you're banded, and this is new, do mention it to your surgeon, even just as a better safe than sorry kind of thing. Onset of acid reflux post-op is one of the signs of a slipped band (no, that doesn't mean you have a slipped band, it just means that many people who have slips also had sudden onset acid reflux as a symptom).

I have hears many solutions to this over the years.....have a small defill can help but may cause you to put on weight, stop drinking at 6pm and go to bed with a dry mouth with loads of pillows risking a stiff neck in the morning. I have tried them all and in the end what works for me is I have a prescribed ant-acid from my Doctor (1 a day type thing) and I also clear my pouch before going to sleep which is just coughing up (not vomiting) any liquid that may be there and I sleep like a baby. No choking or gurgling any more and no panic waking up to rush to the loo thinking I am dying!!!

I do not wretch so apparently am doing no harm to my band...I just cough it up. It is something a lot of us bandsters will suffer with so we just have to learn the best way for us to deal with it...I hope you find yours.

I am so.....glad this has not happened to me. It sounds scary. I think you should let your doc know like Wheetsin said. Hope they can stop the problem for you.

well, i think that this has come as a result of a possibly too tight fill, although now i can eat soft foods without pbing...so i think im gonna leave it i sure dont wanna go backwards and gain weight i am at the 70 lbmark and have been banded since march,..so i am anxious to get my last 30-40 lbs off ya know....i think i will stop drinking b4bed, even though i am sooooo thirsty!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
