Will pills get stuck?

Recommended Posts

I was sent home from the hospital with regular size Percocet that I was able to take with no problems-even right after surgery. I can also take regular size tylenol with no crushing and no problems. (I have not had a fill yet and am 3 1/2 weeks out.)

All Vitamins are available in chewable and liquid forms. Go to your local health food store and ask and they will help you. Prescription meds can be trickier. Some go down no problem, some are too big. Talk to your dotor and they can either give them to you in a different form or you can crush them (yuk, I don't like that option). It is very different for everyone. Some days I can take a pill no problem and the next day take the same pill and it gets stuck. Water does help me with pills, usually (not with food that is stuck) as I guess it dissolves it. Anyway, you just have to practice and figure out what works for you.

I assume this is a blockage. How do you unblock?

I'm crushing even tiny hrt pills and spreading over the day. Using Jello for the time-release Effexor with instructions to not chew the tiny globules inside the capsule. Tums for Calcium and Bugs Bunny Vitamins.

I'll take the effexor on applesauce when I get that, per mfr instructions

Hi all and welcome new banders..........How do you know when to get a fill? I am about 4 weeks out and have felt restricted. I'm hoping a fill will change that.

I was told by the dietician that I had to open my pills up ( 2 X PROZAC) and let them disolve in Water then drink the Water. Not quite sure if this is correct because Prozac are supposed to be slow release hence the outer cover shell.

Milton5a,

Hi, I read your post and thought I should share with you what I found out---I take Effexor XR antidepressant. It's also extended release like your prozac...but my MD told me to go ahead and open the capsule. The medicine is in tiny beads that are slow-release coated *individually*, so it isn't a problem that you have removed the outer Gelatin capsule. I was surprised to find this out, myself. (Maybe Prozac XR isn't the same, but still I figured I should let you know this works with Effexor)

As for how to get the medicine down, I tried mixing it into applesauce and juice but it was TERRIBLE tasting. Ended up having to pour it down the drain.

So I figured out I'd try a trick and it WORKS!!! Open the capsule into a paper dixie cup (like ppl buy for the bathroom). Then get something to drink handy. If you pop your head back and pour / "aim" the meds toward the middle of your tongue, your tastebuds don't register the bitterness and it doesn't taste like much of anything. It's something having to do with the anatomy of the tongue and tastebuds. But it really works!!! Drink water or whatever afterward, and it's virtually painless. :)

Ask your doctor about liqiud prozac. That is what I have been on since 2 weeks before my surgery on December 12th 2007. I seems to be working out fine for me.

I don't have any problems with pills the size of prozac or effexor. They go right down if I drink warm Water with them. It's the big ones like

Flaxseed capsules that give me trouble. I have a very tight fill but my little pills give me no trouble at all.

I have a little pill cutter, works great, Cod Liver Oil gel filled bothers me. B-12's no problem.

Sorry JOJO, but I couldn't imagine "chewing" several of my pills.

AND, who ever came up with "PB"? I call it slimming or spitting back, just my observation, LOL.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
